LMYE Promotions - Nevin from JMB Records interview
This interview took place online with Nevin from
JMB Records

Caity: What kind of bands do you sign?

Nevin: Ok I'll give you the real answers now.

Nevin: We listen to all kinds of music so there isn't a specific genre we look for. If we like the music, the bands tour, and we like each other as people then it could be a match. Bands really have to have a good live show for us to get excited.
Caity: Ah I see.

Caity: What is the most common mistake people make when trying to catch JMB's attention?

Nevin: I dont think ppl make mistakes really. We get demos in the mail alot, in person, on the net through emails, Myspace and instant messenger. Some people can be a little persistant, but that's only because they believe in their music. We try to listen to as many as we can and reply to all the mail we get.

Caity: It sounds like determination and drive are big things you guys look for.

Nevin: Thats a good observation.

Nevin: Thats the most important thing in this game.

Caity: Now I understand that both you and JareTT are the owners of JMB, but was it anyone's personal idea in the beginning?.

Nevin: If you want someone to listen to your music, you have to take it to them.

Nevin: Well jarett and myself have always been involved with music.

Nevin: We love seeing live shows and we were just kicking ideas around one day and decided to just go for it and start a label. We had some friends that had just recorded a CD so we started JMB and released our 1st album.

Caity: Thats cool.

Nevin: We started the label in 2003 and released our 1st CD shortly after.

Nevin: DBY (Death Becomes You) "Make It Bleed" Released - January 27, 2004.

Caity: So do you think things would have been different if your bro (Ian Grushka) hadn't been involved with New Found Glory and persued a career in music? Or would your interest in music remain the same and you still would have had an idea to start the label?

Nevin: Well like I said our family has always had a love for music. Ian told me when he was 13 what he was gonna do with his life and he sure is doing it. There were a lot of things over the years that added to the ideas, we maybe would not have started a label but who knows? W0hen Ian and Chad started Broken Sounds it kind of made it seem like we could do it also.

Caity: Thats really neat how music has kind of always been a part of your life.

Nevin: My parents were always jamming to records and 8 tracks when we were growing up.

Nevin: And we always recorded stuff and made mix tapes.

Nevin: The real kind...on reel to reel and cassette tapes.

Caity: Haha sounds like a blast.

Caity: In the beginning did either you or JareTT try and back out, in other words, were there any doubts about JMB?

Nevin: Not really. We were living together at the time,we were just hanging out onr night kicking some science and we just kind of came up with the idea and the bagel logo and it all happened so fluidly that there was never any second thoughts about it.

Nevin: The concept just became so real so quick, we had to roll with it.

Caity: It's nice to know that some people set a goal and intend to reach it.

Nevin: We never set out to take over the world or anything but we wound up with some great bands . We have lots of fun doing it so that's what keeps it going.

Caity: Cool, cool.

Caity: So lastly, what are some future plans for JMB?

Nevin: We are really looking foward to new full lengths from Fallen From The Sky and From Words Now Heard. Both are incredible bands and everyone reading this should check them out. We also have a few new projects in the works, and we are always looking for more bands to work with.

Nevin: All our music can be founds in stores and on all downloading sites with our favorite being sonyconnect.com

Caity: Well thanks for taking the time to do that interview, really, it means a lot.
