The Shroud's Negative

The Turin Shroud

Despite the wind and rain this valiant priest braved the elements to bring us a very thought provoking look at the Shroud as a way to know Christ better. He described how the Sacrifice of Calvary was placed in history. Jerusalem in that time was a place of political unrest, revolts and riots. The message of Jesus Christ stood out in contrast to the other liberation movements. Instead of denying the authority of the Romans He preached 'Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, but give to God what belongs to God'. Instead of defying the government He was given up to death. The Shroud shows some details of the tortures Jesus endured for us. The blow from his first interview with the Jewish chief priests and elders shows in His swollen Face, the scourges are clearly seen all over His Body, some 120 weals left by the leather straps and 'dumbell' endings, the crown of thorns had left blood marks all over His Head, carrying the cross left abrasions on His Shoulders, the holes in His Wrists and Feet from the nails show that they were driven in so that they would not tear through His Flesh, the oval wound in His Side where the Roman lance let flow blood and water. Things that all of us have heard before but how often do we think of these expressions of Infinite Love. This is the price of our redemption.

Father Little has since passed away. Please pray for him.
