Are you looking to dance in a college setting and get a degree in dance? I think I can answer many of the questions you may have. I am currently a freshman dance major at a well-known college for dance. If I have happened to miss something, let me know so I can add it!!
Mercyhurst College, Erie, PA
When thinking about majoring in dance, there are several things you want to keep in mind. Is this the right choice for you? What do you see yourself doing after you graduate? If you want to perform, and have the opportunity to join a company now, I suggest doing that. An education will always be available, while we are not able to dance forever. If you are considering a teaching career, a degree in dance isn't such a bad idea. I do suggest either double majoring or minor in something different such as business, marketing, education, psychology, and the list goes on. It's very important to have something else there to back you up once you are not dancing anymore. This article is very new, and hopefully I will be able to add to it!!! Here are some colleges I recommend looking into:
University of Utah, Salt Lake City
SUNY Purchase, NY
University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City
Butler University, Indiana
Point Park College, Pittsburgh, PA
University of the Arts, PA
Boston Conservatory, MA
Julliard, NY
Goucher College, MD
University of Hartford, Hartford, CT
University of California-Irvine
Belhaven College, MS
North Carolina School of the Arts
There is a lot more out there, look into Dance Magazine's College Guide that is put out each year!!! Good luck!
