The Hardest Thing
Chapet 1

Finally back home I thought as I stepped through the door it was the holidays now and 
I just came back from university  
�Hey your home� my mum said coming out of the kitchen and drying her hands on a T towel. 
�Yeah a whole 8 weeks off� I said smiling I missed being at home and I missed my best 
friendshe goes to a different university to me and its not like its close there 
300 miles apart so I treasure the holidays she has the same breaks as me and 
instead of being 300 miles away from me she�s only about a 5 minute walk away 

�is back by-the-way� my mum told me knowing I wanted to go and see her 
�When did she get back?� I asked her 
�Two days ago� she replied 
�Oh ok well I�ll go unpack everything and see her after we�ve had dinner� I said 
to my mum and hugged her 
�Ok dinner will be ready in about an hour� she said as I broke away and picked up 
my suit cases I walked upstairs to my room and unpacked them into the correct 
drawers and putting what needed washing in the wash basket.
�dinner� my mum called up the stairs to me I opened my door and ran down the 
stairs and into the kitchen 
�� I said hugging her as she stood in the kitchen she hugged me back 
�I missed you� she said as I released her 
�I missed you to you staying for dinner� I replied
�That was the plan all along� my mum said smiling 
�You two set this up then?� I asked and they nodded 
�Sneaky� I said with a smile as I sat down at the table with my dinner 
�So how is uni going for you?� I asked
�Oh it was great but I�ve finished now though but I�ve got a work placement� she said 
�Oh really where?� I asked her 
�The best place ever� she replied smiling widely 
�Where?� I asked her again 
�Clothes store� she said and I rolled my eyes 
�Don�t roll your eyes at me its not just any clothes store it�s Dolce & Gabbana� she replied 
�Oh wow that�s good babe� I said with a bit of a mouthful 
�don�t talk with your mouthful� my mum said 
�Sorry� I replied 
�So when do you start working there?� I asked her 
�In a few weeks� she said drinking some water
�So how�s uni going for you?� she asked me 
�It�s alright learning about music and stuff I�m enjoying it but it gets lonely 
up there� I said 
�Yeah I know what you mean� she said as my mum collected the plates up to wash 
them we went up to my room still talking 
�I don�t feel as lonely up there when I wear this though� she said pulling the locket 
out from under her clothes the locket I gave her with a picture of herself and me in 
with best friends inscribed on the front 
�Yeah same here when I wear this watch everyday� I replied it was the watch she�d 
given me when we were going our separate ways to learn different things she smiled 
�But this time I�ll be alone down here� she said with a little sigh as she led 
back on my bed
�You know you�re never alone� I said sitting next to her 
�I know that as long as I wear this but it not the same as having you 
there� she said 
�I know its not� I replied stroking some hair out of her face 
�Want to watch a film?� I asked her 
�Yeah sure� she said as I got up and went over to my TV and DVD player putting a DVD 
in I pressed play and turned the light off before sitting back down on my bed I lent 
back against the wall andput her head in my lap as we watched the film together 
like old times exactly like the old times I thought as
fell asleep in my lap I 
carefully got up and put a pillow in place of where her head was led on my lap I turned 
everything off clicking on my table lamp as I searched for a blanket I found one and 

covered us both with it as I led next to her�
