I heard crying coming from Jakes room I was collecting the washing and heard him from the 
bathroom I put down the wash basket and walked into his room
�Hey Jake what�s the matter?� I asked him as I sat down on the end of his bed
�Just I miss mum and dad� he said crying some more
�I know you do so do I� I replied as tears came to my eyes
�But you�ve got to stay strong and move on do you think you�ll be able to go to school on 
Monday?� I asked him
�I�ll try but willdrop me off?� he asked
�I�ll ask him when he gets in� I replied
�Can I watch some TV for now then� Jake asked
�Yeah of course you can� I said and left his room he went downstairs into the living room I 
finished collecting the washing and took it down stairs I�d just loaded it into the machine when 
came in
�Hey babe how�s things� he asked pointing towards the living room
�He�s still crying about it now and again but he did say he�d try and go to school on Monday but he 
wants you to take him� I told
�Of course babe anything to get him and you back on your feet� he said I smiled
�It�s easier for me to get back on my feet I have you to help me� 
I said huggingI rested my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes slightly I felt like crying 
it was perfect moments like this wherewould just hold me but then it also scarred me what if 
we ended up like my mum and dad?
�You ok?�asked I nodded taking my head off of his shoulder
�I�ll go tell Jake that I�ll take him to school on Monday�
said leaving the room
�Thank you� I heard Jake say as I entered the living room he hugged Lee
�It�s alright little man�said making Jake smile
�What do you want for tea?� I asked them
�Don�t worry about it babe I�ll cook�said getting up and going into the kitchen I sat 
down next to Jake and spoke with him
�You do know thatand I love you right� I said
�Yeah I do and I know your only my sister and�s kind of my brother but you seem a lot 
more to me� Jake said and hugged me
�I have to be remember you�re a 10 year old child but then I have been looking after you since you 
were 6 when the arguments started� I said
�Yeah you we�re more of a mum to me then mum was� Jake said I stayed silent after he had 
said that it was sweet but it just reminded me of how bad things used to be those 4 years ago 
before Dad walked out�
