| Become A Lifeguard! | ||||||||
| You may begin your lifeguard training at 13 years old by taking the Bronze Medallion which is a 20 hour course. After you have completed Bronze Medallion you may move on to Bronze Cross, whish is also a 20 hour course.After that you will need to take Standard First Aid.(16 hours) Once you are 16, you can take the National Lifeguard Service Award(NLS)(40 hours) to become a professional lifeguard. In order to teach lessons, you will need to take the Sears I Can Swim Instructor Course that is 20 hours and you must be 15 years old and have Bronze Cross. We are also looking to design an adult lifeguard training program that is tailored to the busy lifestyles of the working adult. | Bronze Medallion: The Lifesaving Society's Bronze Medallion Award teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education - judgment, knowledge, skill , and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defense and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of risk involving conscious efficiency and endurance in a timed swim. The pre-requiste is 13 years of age. |

| Bronze Cross: Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers that want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities.Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. The pre-requisite is Bronze Medallion. Once the candidate has completed Bronze Cross an is 16 years of age they can go on to take N.L.S to become a lifeguard. |
