Chapter 5

"JC, hey man, what are you doing here?" Justin said when he spotted Micah and JC on set.

"Heard Julia wasn’t in the best of moods so I thought I’d drop by and bring her some Rollos, she used to eat them by the ton when we were in school," JC answered.

"Anything that might help would be great," Justin said. "She didn’t think we were funny when we were throwing Midol at her, but man, we weren’t tryin to be."

"That’s cruel," JC shook his head. "You know where she is?"

"Her trailer. She’s got a break so she decided to go lay down. Follow me and I’ll show you where it is," Justin answered. "How’d you hear bout Julia though?"

"She called because she forgot Micah didn’t have Rock Ridge today and we talked for a while," he explained.

"Well I’m sure she’ll be happy you brought her chocolate and Micah," Justin said stopping in front of a trailer. "Well she’s in there. Catch up with you later. Bye Micah!"

"Bye Uncle Justin," Micah said.

"Go away, Justin, I’m not in the mood," JC heard Julia yell after he knocked on her trailer door.

"I’m not Justin and I come baring gifts," JC called back.

"Josh?!" Julia exclaimed opening the door. "Micah, baby," she smiled pulling him into a hug. "What are you two doing here?" she asked JC, giving him a hug as well.

"Well you told me yourself you weren’t in a great mood so I thought maybe these--" he said holding out the bag of candy. "--and Micah would help."

"Rollos? Josh! Thank you," she grinned. "I can’t believe you thought to bring me some."

"Well they always seemed to do the trick when we were in school," he shrugged. "If they don’t work I’ll bring you a bag of Snickers since Joey’s not around to bring them to you."

"You’re such a sweetie," Julia replied sitting down with Micah in her lap. "Seriously, you brought me my three favorite things."

"Three?"

"Micah, chocolate, and you."

"Me?" he questioned taking the Rollo she’d offered him.

"You’re my best friend, you know that, right?" Julia said. "Being around my best friends always makes me feel better," she explained when he nodded. "That’s why I made you and Joey stay around when I got all mean and everyone left."

"Oh I thought you just wanted us around so you’d have someone to yell at who wouldn’t yell back at you."

"That too but also because you were my best friends," Julia smiled. "And I knew you wouldn’t do mean things like throw Midol at me."

"You have to admit if it wasn’t happening to you, you would’ve thought it was funny," JC said.

"What’s Midol?" Micah asked.

"Something women take when they don’t feel good," Julia answered. "Puts them in a better mood."

"Okay," he nodded taking a piece of candy out of Julia’s hand.

"So this is your trailer, huh?" JC said after a little while.

Julia nodded. "It’s not much but usually I’m on set and then I’m home."

"Yah, that’s true."

"Justin and I should be home early today. I have like one scene and it shouldn’t take too long, hopefully. And he’s got one and then he’s in the scene I’m shooting too," Julia said.

"All right. Since Micah and I aren’t doin anything else today I was thinking we’d make dinner," JC said.

"That’d be nice. I can’t remember the last time I had a home cooked meal besides the weekend we were at your parents."

"It has been a while," JC agreed. "What do you say, Micah, should we make dinner?"

Micah nodded. "Barbecue chicken."

"We can probably do that," JC nodded.

=

"I feel like I’m interrupting," Justin told JC when Julia took Micah to change clothes so that he wouldn’t stain the clothes he was wearing.

"What do you mean?"

"You all only get so much time to be together as a family and I feel like I’m interrupting is," Justin explained.

"Nonsense. It’s just dinner, we’ve all eaten together almost everyday for the last two months," JC said.

"This just feels different though. I mean you and Micah spent all afternoon working on it to have it ready for when Julia came home from work."

"Don’t worry about it, Jus. Like I said it’s just a dinner, no different than any other, expect home cooked."

"He’s right, Justin," Julia said coming back into the kitchen. "It’s just dinner, you gotta eat anyway or Brit and your mom’ll come and beat us for not taking care of their baby."

"As long as you’re sure..."

"We’re sure."

"Micah, it okay with you?"

"Yup! You make dinner funny when Mommy and Daddy are being weird."

"Hey! We aren’t weird," Julia exclaimed.

"Are so," Micah argued.

"I have to agree with Micah," Justin grinned.

"You’re one to talk," JC said.

==

"So you ready to go back on the road?" Julia asked JC while she lay on his bed watching him pack up the rest of his clothes.

"Kinda. It’s been great being in one place for a longer amount of time than two days and getting to spend time with you and Micah," JC answered. "But I miss being out there every night, being around the fans, ya know?"

"Yah being almost normal for two months must be hard, huh?"

"It’s been great, actually. Being a dad, being able to go places without having to worry about crazed fans," he replied. "You must be excited to get back to Orlando though, huh?"

"Yah I miss my family," she nodded. "I’m not used to not seeing them everyday."

"Have you figured out what you’re going to do after the movie wraps?"

"I’ve gotten a few offers but I’m not really sure. I wanna do something that won’t involve leaving Orlando very often, especially with Micah just starting school, ya know?"

"Yah... What kind of offers have you gotten?"

"Well one I’m looking into is a talk show, like Rosie or whatever."

"That’d be fun."

"Yah and I could do it in Orlando but there’s a lot of morning talk shows, ya know?"

"Yah that’s true..." JC nodded. "Have you looked into any of the management companies?"

"I got an offer from Trans Con but I haven’t really looked."

"Trans Con?"

"I informed them that I would rather go back to stripping before I even considered working for Lou Pearlman. I’d feel less dirty that way."

"God you’re too much," JC laughed. "I can’t believe Lou actually offered you a job though. You were a pain in his ass even before we found out he was ripping us off."

"I couldn’t either but I’m just that good," Julia shrugged. "Even people who hate me wanna give me a job."

"You should talk to Johnny, if WEG’s not looking, he usually knows who is," JC said.

"I might, don’t really wanna bother him though.’

"Bother? Hardly. Promise me you’ll at least think about talking to him."

"All right, I promise."

=

"Bye, Micah, Julia," Justin said giving them hugs. "I’ll wait in the car," he added to JC grabbing his bag.

"I’ll see you as soon as I get a day off, okay?" JC said to Micah giving him a hug.

"All right. Have a good time," Micah nodded.

"You have a good time too. Don’t cause too much trouble for your mom."

"I’ll try."

"Love you."

"Love you too, Daddy," Micah said.

"Bye, Josh," Julia said giving him a hug.

"Bye, Ju," he answered. "Call me when you get into Orlando so I know you made it safely."

"All right. You be safe, okay? Inform those girls they gotta be careful, you got a son to come back to."

"All right. I’ll let you know when we’re off and I can come visit, okay?"

Julia nodded and JC hugged each of them again before leaving.

==

"All right, talk to you later," JC said turning off his cell phone.

"So, how are Julia and Micah?" Justin asked.

"Good. Micah starts school on Monday so he’s really excited."

"You going back to Orlando so you can take him?"

"We’re free from Sunday to Tuesday," Chris said.

"We are? I’ll probably go back then," JC nodded, looking at the paper he’d been doodling on, quickly closing the notebook.

"Too late! Already saw it," Chris grinned.

"JC and Ju sittin in a tree," sang Justin.

"K I S S I N G," Chris answered.

"First came Micah, then came love, then comes JC with a wedding ring."

"Haha," JC rolled his eyes.

"Admit it, C, you want Julia. You wanna marry her and have more little Micahs," Justin teased.

"A billion more, or at least try for it," Chris added.

"Whatever, Julia and I are just friends."

"Then how come you sat here and wrote her name and drew hearts around it?" smirked Chris.

"I didn’t either!"

"Did so, we both saw it."

"Like anyone’d believe you two," JC replied walking to his bunk.

=

"When’s dinner, Mommy?" Micah questioned coming into the kitchen.

"It should be finished soon," Julia answered looking at the timer. "You excited?"

Micah nodded. "Daddy’s going to come, right?"

"He’s trying to, baby," she nodded. "You understand though if he can’t make it, right?"

"Yah I understand. He’s busy but he’ll be off tour soon."

"That’s right and he’ll pick you up every day after preschool and spend the afternoon with you."

"Just like in Detroit?"

"Yah expect Uncle Justin won’t be around quite as much, but I will."

"But I’ll getta see him and the others, right?"

"Yah I’m sure you’ll get to see ‘em," Julia agreed.

"Good. They’re fun."

"What I’m not fun?" Julia teased.

"You are but they’re guy fun," Micah explained.

"Oh I see. Right, my bad," Julia laughed. The doorbell rang before Micah had a chance to speak. "Lets go get that, huh?" Julia suggested, taking his hand.

"Okay," Micah nodded.

"Josh? You made it," she smiled when she saw him standing there.

"I couldn’t miss Micah’s first day of preschool, that’s a big step," he answered, giving her a quick hug before squatting down to hug Micah. "So you excited?"

"Yep!! Mommy got me new clothes, they’re really cool!!"

"You’ll have to show them to me," JC said.

"It’ll have to wait until dinner’s over," Julia said when the timer went off. "You hungry?" she asked JC.

"If you’re sure I’m not imposing."

"Never," Julia replied.

"All right then."

==

"Whatcha doin?" Joey asked sitting down next to JC on the piano bench.

"Writing."

"Whatcha writin?" Justin asked sitting on the other side of JC.

"Song."

"Can I read it?" they asked simultaneously.

"Fine."

Uncertain of how I feel/Uncertain of how you feel/do we feel the same

"That’s deep," Joey joked after reading it.

"Seriously it’s really good, JC," Justin told him.

"Thanks."

"Got any melodies in mind for it?" Joey asked.

"One," he nodded.

"Can we hear it?"

JC shrugged and began to play. "Not complete but it’s a start."

"It’s really good. You’ll have to let us hear it when its finished," Justin said after listening to JC play.

"Okay," he nodded.

"Why don’t you just tell Julia how you feel and then you’ll know the answers to your song," Joey questioned.

"We’re just-"

"We’ve all seen the doodles, JC," Justin cut him off.

"You’ll feel better if you just admit you like her," Joey prompted. "I did when I was struggling with how I felt about Kelly."

"Struggling? You knew how you felt about her!" JC countered.

"I didn’t always," Joey shook his head.

"Yah when you were with Julia," JC retorted.

"Lance, Chris, tell C he’ll feel better if he admits he’s in love with Julia," Justin said when the two came into the room.

"I tend to agree with them," Chris nodded.

"Not that it’s any of our business but they’re right, you would feel better if you allowed yourself to admit it," Lance agreed.

"Whatever," JC said exiting the room.

=

"JC, what?" Justin groaned when he saw the brunette standing over him, having woken him up. "What?" he questioned not understanding what JC mumbled.

"I’m in love with Julia," he whispered.

"YAHOO!!" Justin grinned. "Have you called her yet and told her?"

"Are you kidding?!" JC exclaimed. "I can’t tell her that! We’re just friends!"

"Of course you can tell her," Justin argued.

"Can’t either," JC shook his head. "Go back to sleep, I need to go tell the others so they’ll leave me alone."

"Sleep?! You expect me to sleep after you tell me something like that? I don’t think so! Lets go wake the others so we can talk about it like you made me do when I admitted I was in love with Brit and when Chris admitted he was in love with Dani! It’ll be great fun."

"This is the last time I ever tell you first. The other three would’ve grunted okay and had me tell them again in the morning," JC sighed, following Justin to Joey’s room.

"Exactly, that’s why you told me first," Justin replied.

"Whatever."

"Seriously, it is. You’ll see," he said stopping at Joey’s bed.

"Joe, wake up," JC said shaking him.

"Mmph? What?"

"I’m in love with Julia."

"You are?!" Joey exclaimed sitting up. "That’s wonderful!! We’ve gotta get the others up."

"That’s what I said," Justin replied.

"This is gonna be a long night," JC sighed following them out of the room.
