1962 - graduated from the Department of philology and history (Russian language and Literature, English) of the Batumi State Pedagogical Institute

1964 - graduated from the Department of the Planning of the National Economy of Tbilisi State University

1962-1965 - teacher of the English language at the Music College and the activist of Young Communists' Union;

1965-1980 - director of the Technical schools #44 and # 105;

1981-1984 - Vice-chairman of the People's Council of Batumi City Hall;

1984-1986 - Minister of Public Utilities of the Ajarian Autonomous Republic;

1986          - First Deputy Minister of the Public Utilities of Georgia;

1989          - President of the State Concern for the Public Utilities of the Republic of Georgia;

1991/to present  - elected MP of Georgia (1991,1992,1995,1999) elected as a Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia (1992-1995); Member and the Chairman of Supreme Council  of the Ajarian Autonomous Republic;

1998 - present - Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Ajarian Autonomous Republic, Head of the Ajarian Autonomous Republic;

Awards:

1976 - Decoration of Honor

1994 - Military rank of General-major;

1996 - Order of Friendship of Russian Federation - awarded the Prize named after Nansen;- elected as a full-fledged member of the Academy for IT;

1997 - given the rank of the Cavalier of Malta order;

1999 - elected as a full-fledged member of the World International Academy "Elite",- member of certain National Academies - given the honorary title of the "Hero of anti-drug movement" and Certificate of appreciation by the Saving Fund of Children and Adults.

Marital Status: has a wife: Maguli Gogitidze, son and daughter, and two grandchildren.
