Meets Blood Bowl |
I was looking a chat online the other day where people were complaining about the price of miniatures and then went to another thread where people were talking about a possible one day tournament in Maidenhead (just outside of London, England). I made the comment about how it was near Windsor. At that point someone asked me what was the point of mentioning Windsor. I replied that it was the home of Legoland UK and it would be the perfect time to stop in and get a few Lego minifigs to put a team and a pitch together... Two hours later I thought about the idea a bit more and went 'Hey, this is doable' and like an idiot I started on another project. |

I have finished the pitch for the moment. I included a couple of towers that are visible on the far side of the field to take the place of the dugout. The reserves can now sit in their 'skyboxes' and view the match. The advertising around the perimeter of the pitch has a few Lego adverts that came with a soccer themed. However the bulk of the advertising is Blood Bowl themed. Thanks to Christer, Jim, Johnny P. and Tom, I have signs promoting places from NAF and Talkbloodbowl to Fumbbl and Blood-Bowl.net. |

Look through the player action shot images and see how many of the advertisements you can recognise. |

The squares of the pitch are slightly underscale (a Blood Bowl square is about 4.5 Lego units square, I used 4 units on the pitch)so I will have to make a scaled down range ruler to accomodate. I have found the translucent pieces and made a full size range ruler from them, but haven't made an additional scaled down one.. |

The Lego minifigs bring a personality of their own to the game and work quite well. There are limits to them as some teams, like Skaven, that have no suitable Lego substitutes. |

Lego has done soccer, basketball and ice hockey sets, but not a rugby or an American football set. So I had to think up an alternative for the ball. As you can see below, I used a Lego gem. The minifigs can grasp it as you can see by the Werewolf below chasing the skeleton with the ball (gem) below or with the Vampire above. |

To celebrate the near completion of the pitch and teams, I gave a Khemri skeleton player to each of my opponents at Carnage II in London. I am a firm believer in giving something to my opponents as very few people walk away from a tournament with an award. I was quite fortunate to be recognized for making a pitch for the tournament as well as winning the Most Casualties Trophy. For the record I inflicted the casualties, not received them. In addition to this I tied for Most Kills with Innerspin. |

I have assembled 5 teams so far. The teams are displayed here. They are Amazons, Khemri, Necromantic, Vampire and Wood Elf. Not all teams have pictures yet, but they will as soon as I get around to it. More teams are possible - Norse, Goblin and Human for example. However, I will slow down on collecting the teams until I play a few games with the current ones. |
