"I still think it's cruel for you to have dragged me all the way out here," Keibi's insistent tone said for perhaps the fifth time. Desiree rolled her eyes, but otherwise ignored the small dragon. Putting a hand across her brow, she looked over the landscape before her.

The incredible heat seemed to warp the horizon, the almost tangible heat waves rising from the ground in swirling patterns. Clean white sand stretched as far as the eye could see in all directions, and the evershifting contour of the land vaguely reminded Desiree of the sea. There were a few spots of green here and there, but most of the plants were painted in brown and cracked to the touch.

"I still can't believe you would even think I would help you somehow," Keibi said as he shuffled his wings once again in irritation.

"Jeesh, Keibi, I thought you would stop complaining within a few minutes of entering this place. And you've been going on a full hour now," Desiree replied as she stared flatly at the green and blue dragon sitting in the small shadow she casted on the ground.

"Well, it is hot here after all. And I don't take too well to the heat."

"You don't take too well to anything. Now, the reason you came was to provide some company, not complain. Let's go," Desiree said as she retrieved her small backpack from the ground. Keibi immediately rose and flapped his wings to gain enough altitude to sit on Desiree's shoulder. He moved her short around around, trying to provide some shade for himself.

"Dork," Desiree said, staring flatly at the small dragon once again."

"If I have to be a dork to have some shade, then I proudly call myself a dork. Now, where is this friend of yours?"

"I'm not exactly sure, but she should be close by," Desiree replied, as she looked around herself once again. Letting out a small sigh, she continued walking once again. The sand beneath her feet gave away a little, her feet sinking about half an inch into the land. Looking over her shoulder, she could see her own trail of footprints heading back to the small smudge of black and green that was the forest where she resided.

There was a lot of wind in this place, hot gusts of air that held no real power upon this place. The wind usually picked up handfuls of sand, and it was unbearable to be walking into the wind with the sand hitting her face. The sun above seemed bigger than she could ever remember it being, and she wished there was a river or lake somewhere nearby.

She quickly topped a small hill, and finally saw her destination before her. It was a small house made out of something that looked like white brick. It was small and very low to the ground, suggesting that a good portion of the small house lay below the sand. Desiree hurried down the hill to the small door, and knocked without hesitation.

It did not take long for a deeply tanned woman to answer the door. She smiled and motioned for Desiree to enter her small dwelling. Inside was dark and cool, and sparsely furnished. A small table, a single chair, and dozens of blankets to serve as the bed were all that composed of the single room's items. But it seemed suit to the woman who owned it.

"Long time since you've visited me," the woman answered in a deep voice.

"Yes, sorry about that Krin, I've been so busy of late."

"So, what brings you all the way out here," Krin asked, as she set hand Desiree a cup of water.

"Well, I plan to adopt a dragon from Dragon Wings, and I was wondering if I could have the dragon come live with you," Desiree said as she sipped her water and offered the rest to the disgruntled Keibi.

"I wouldn't mind one bit! It'll be nice to have some company out here in the middle of nowhere," Krin replied, a bright smile on her face.

"Well, it sure seems like a small egg," Krin commented after Desiree and Keibi had entered the small home with the egg nestled in one of their leather carrying cases.

"Yes, it is small than what we usually deal with. But wonderful things can come from small packages," Desiree replied, checking on the egg once again. They had created a small nest for it out of a few blankets, enough to keep the egg warm until the dragon inside decided to make its debut appearance.

More will be added as the dragon hatches/grows.
