| "The smell of the ocean's water is upon the air," Desiree said as she wrote in the small notebook that lay open on her lap. Keibi nodded his head, sitting upon a branch of one of the many trees. "It has been so all week," Keibi replied as he ruffle his wings, preparing to fall asleep in the warm sun that filtered through the tree tops. "How about we go to the ocean, Keibi?" Keibi opened one eye and warily regarded his bondmate. He was a forest dragon, and wasn't meant for trips to the ocean. "Besides," Desiree continued. "I need to set up a new home for a dragon. I want to bring one of the abandoned dragons at Silver Valley here to the Forest." "Good for you. I'm staying here. Have fun," Keibi trailed off as he closed both eyes, blocking the warm sunlight out. He ruffled his wings once more and rested his small head onto his chest. His breathing deepened as he drifted into sleep. Desiree sighed and stood, placing the small book and pen into one of the many pockets in her small coat. She slowly walked up the the sleeping dragon, and stared at the little creature for a few moments. But eventually she reached a decision, and grabbed the small dragon by his tail. She yanked, not hard, but hard enough to cause the small dragon to fall off the branch and out of the tree. Keibi screeched, and quickly opened his wings to try and stop his fall. Desiree caught him, and stuffed the dragon under her arm before heading towards a broad trail. "WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!?!" Keibi cried out as he tried to get free from the human's grasp. "I wanted you to come with me, but you seemed reluctant," Desiree answered with a smile. She let the little dragon go, allowing Keibi to stretch his wings and fly slowly alongside her. "You know I don't like large bodies of water..." "Seems like I forgot that bit of detail," she said with sarcasm. Keibi sighed and continued to follow her down the trail. The trail, though newly made, told already of many people taking this path down to the ocean. Only two homes were currently down there, and Desiree said more homes should be created. And Keibi cursed under his breath that Desiree had decided to make one this day and at this time. |
| Soon the trees began to thin out, and the path beneath them becoming more sandy. Soon Desiree's feet began to sink further into the path, marking the beginning of the long stretch of beach that marked the ocean. Desiree slipped off her boots and socks, feeling the warm sand beneath. The Forest's trees were replaced by thin palm trees that grew in bent postures. "Well, we've got to find a good place along here that the dragon might approve of." Desiree shielded her eyes from the sun, and looked down the length of the beach and the incoming waves of the sparkling ocean. "What do you know about this dragon that you want to bring here?" Keibi landed on Desiree's shoulder, allowing his wings to rest. Desiree began to walk down the ocean, heading to a large outcropping that jutted into the ocean itself. "Well, her name is Crystal Ocean, and she is an adolescent blue. I really hope she will be able to come and live here with us," Desiree finished as the reached the outcrpping of dark and weathered stones. Looking into the water at their feet, they found the water clear and only marred by occasional ripples across the top. The area was filled with seaweed plants, waving gently with the ocean's undercurrent's. Light caught on the leaves, causing the water to sparkle like thousands of little stars. "I think she'll love it!!" *** The blue's eyes were wide, uncertainty dictating the stance which she was in. Crystal Ocean lay rigid, keeping eyes upon Desiree who sat on the outcropping of rock. Desiree rambled quietly on, describing the new home to which the blue dragon had come to. The dragonn's stance had begun more relaxed as time went on, and Desiree hoped that the dragon was finally beginning to trust her. Crystal Ocean had come earlier that day, scared and depressed. Desiree had brought her straight to the ocean, where the blue's eyes lit up once they chance upon the gleaming water. After retreating to its depth for a few hours, Crystal had come back to where Desiree sat upon the beach. Tommorow, Des planned to take her to visit the other Valley dragons living in the Forest, so she might feel more welcomed. She wanted to especially take the dragon to visit Jino, another Valley dragon that had been abandoned so long ago. Perhaps they could talk to each other, and hopefully help each other put the past behind themselves. "So, Crystal, do you like the ocean so far?" Desiree smiled. She planned to stay with the dragon for as long as she could, not wanting to go back to the warmth of her bed when the night grew chill. She planned to stay with the adolescent, and help the dragon's transition into her new home. What seemed to be a faint smile, Crystal's first since coming here, ghosted through her eyes. "Yes, it is very pleasent." Desiree smiled once again before standing and walking to where Crystal lay upon the warm beach. Desiree sat next to the young dragon whose head now rested upon her claws. "I promise to do the best that I can to make you happy living here. I know it can be tought, but I promise that you won't be alone." The dragon raised her head and met Desiree's eyes. Crystal's eyes were unreadable, but Desiree knew that over time the dragon would begin to put the past behind her and begin to truly live. *** Crystal Ocean caused a small wave to roll against the outcropped rocks as she surfaced. The water was warm and calm today, inviting all to enter its depths. Desiree sat at the end of the outcropping, drying in the warm sun, clearly tired. "You tire to easily," Crystal said with a smile. The blue dragon lay in the sand next to Desiree, letting herself stretch out to her fullest length. "I'm only human," Desiree muttered with mock anger, laughing with the dragon. Crystal Ocean was an adult now, fully grown. She had grown just a few days ago, revealing her type as water. Now, she swam faster and seemed to spend even more time in the water's depths. After living her for a while, the dragon had eventually warmed up to Desiree, but was still shy around other humans. And though she was a quiet dragon for her type, she still talked quite often with Desiree about various subjects. The dragon had finally seemed to put the horrible past event behind her, but it was evident that she would always remember. "So, are we going to continue that book of yours?" The dragon pawed at Desiree's pack, letting the sunlight spill into it. Desiree brought a thick book out, and opened it in her lap. Crystal Ocean had grown a fondness for literature, and they spent hours together reading through a book to pass the time. She began to read the old book, her soft words trailing softly into the salt laden air, recreating the story in their minds. "His talons gleamed in the moonlight as he clutched the..." |
