<BGSOUND SRC="promise.mid" LOOP=INFINITE>
You find yourself at the beginning of a small path, winding through the forest. You try to look down the trail, to see the where the end may be. But no matter how far and deep you look, you cannot see the end of the trail.

The forest around you is full of dark trees. The trunks are gnarled and old, the leaves dark and wilting, and the boughs which form the canopy do not allow any of the sunlight to fall upon the ground. Scraggly bushes and other plants fighting for the meager sunlight are full of shadows, warnings of the unseen. You decide that wherever the trail must lead, it must be better than where you are standing at the present.

So, you begin to walk upon the winding path. The dirt is hardpacked and only a little bit of dirt begins to trail upwards as your feet disturb the ground. Every now and then are a few spots of sunlight, barely enough to make a difference in the dark forest. Thick vines grow across the path, hiding hidden holes and hidden rocks. Carefully stepping over these, you make your way slowly down the path.

As you are walking, watching the ground beneath your feet, you notice that your face is warmer than it was before. You stop in your tracks and look upwards to see that the canopy is no longer thick, and no longer are the old and gnarled trees before you. You stand at the very edge of the forest, overlooking a hilly scene of lush grass before your eyes. The warm sunlight bathes your face, giving warmth unlike the dark forest.

Before you are many hills, hiding the sights that lay beyond. The one right before you is tall and does not allow you to see much of the rolling land. So, you climb up the hill. The grass beneath you is soft and resilent, springing up after you tread upon the blades. Without much difficulty you find yourself at the very top of the hill, overlooking the grand sight laid out before you.

A lake stretches far and wide, a slight breeze swirling the otherwise perfect surface. The lake is all colors of blue, some areas dark while others are light. But all the colors blend into the next, all of them working together to make the beautiful lake that is before your eyes. Tranquility seems to hover in the air, coming from the lake.

As you watch the lake and the ripples dance across the surface, a dark shape catches your eye. You look, but as soon as your eyes catch hold, the shape is gone. "Hello? Who is there?" You cry outwards, no expecting anyone to answer.

"Did you come from the path within the forest?" The voice which speaks is soft and smooth, rolling calming towards you. You take a step back in surprise, not expecting anyone to be here of all places.

"Uhm, yes," you speak hesitantly.

Once your words are out the dark shape comes out from hiding in a patch of tall grass. You realize that the dark shape before you is a dark black dragon, his wings folded silently at his side.

"That is good. The path was enchanted by Desiree and Iris to make sure that evil may not enter this place."

"Who are Desiree and Iris? And what is this place?"

"Desiree is the creator and leader of the Forest. Iris is her assistant. This lake is on the outskirts of the Forest. The forest is where adopted dragons and other animals come to live. Desiree has decided that this place is suitable for a dragon to come and live."

"So, you are living here now."

The black dragon turns and walks down to the edge of the lake. He sits and motions you to do the same. "My name is Legolas. I have been living in the Forest for awhile. My last home became unsuitable for me to live in any longer. Desiree was planning on making this home to adopt a dragon from City of Dragons, but she could find no gaurdian to protect the dragon. And since I needed a new home anyway, Desiree decided to give me the job of protecting the new dragon."

"Ah, I see. So, when will this other dragon be coming?"

"Not sure exactly. We have sent in our form and we are awaiting for a reply. You may stay here for as long as you like, but there are other places to go." So, you sit with Legolas a little longer, watching the wind play with the mutlicolored lake.

***
You come back to visit Legolas the next day at the Lake. Legolas is by the side of the lake, but this time he is watching over an object. A blue egg is nestled safely into a nest made out of various grasses and twigs.

"So, Legolas, you got the dragon?"

"Yup!" Legolas normally serious demeanor is broken for a moment as he expresses his joy in getting the egg. "The egg came this morning."

"Well congrats!"

"Also, a lovely poem came with the egg, would you like to read?" You nod your head and he pulls out a silver peice of paper.

You smile as you finish reading the beautiful poem. You hand the paper back to Legolas who puts it carefully away. The two of you sit in the warm sunlight by the calm lake, Legolas watching the egg protectively.
***
You decide to visit Legolas a few days later, wanting to see if the egg has hatched yet. You find Legolas sitting by the lake, looking out over the clear water.

"The hatchling grew this morning," Legolas says as the water of the lake begins to ripple. Soon the body of a medium-sized dragon appears and climbs onto the water's edge and looks at you with soft eyes.

Legolas was adopted from HERE
Our silver dragon has been adopted from....
A smiling moon

As the moon rises up, through the trees.
It's silver arms reach out to the people of Earth.
As it's cold, silver arms touch our warm faces,
a smile stretches across his face.
Sometimes when the moon is so happy, he'll cry.
His tears fall from the night sky,
and splash down onto every surface.
But when that golden arm reaches up from the East,
the moons smile fades away.
And as the sun wakes up and says goodmorning,
to every creature.
The moon goes and takes a nap,
a long with his children, the stars.
