Monologue
Violence in Schools
By Halley
I’m glad there wasn’t another school shooting today. I don’t understand why these people are doing this. Its all wrong, what could drive someone to this level of hatred toward another person? I just can’t figure it out. Why would you want to kill all of those people? Even if they hurt you with verbal abuse, that isn’t enough to kill someone, is it? I don’t know why people would do that. To not even think about the effect they are having on the world. It’s not only school shootings that are wrong. It’s the little things that just seem to add up, all of the teasing, harassing, and excluding. I know what it feels like, I have experienced them all of my life. A cruel nickname, being told that your a freak, only because you don’t care if your being “cool” or not. These comments hurt but they aren’t a cause for these shootings and useless violence. The things that are going on in the schools, not only Springfield or Columbine but right here in Lo high as well. I see it everyday. Even just that look you give to the Special Education students, it takes a bigger toll on them than it would on you or me. The cause of this is only because people are different. Also because people do feel hate. There is no good reason for this violence in schools but I know that we can help make a difference. Smile at someone you don’t know or at someone you don’t usually talk to. Who knows, you just might make a new friend. Now as I look back, even just at last year, I see that I did things that were mean. I hope that I never make that mistake again. All of those little comments help cause useless violence in the end.
this is a monologue I wrote and gave as a presentation to my freshmen english class. i really like it and believe in what I said.
