Hobbies: Teaching Tasuki and Koji on how to be good leaders for the bandits

Other: Was the leader before Tasuki, and gave Tasuki the Tessen. He died of an illness before Tasuki could find the cure.

Hakurou is only mentioned as the "leader" in the anime series, but in Tasuki's Gaiden he is so much more. He is the one who helped mold Tasuki into what he is. He is also the person who told Tasuki about the Suzaku legend and how he would one day have to leave to guard over the priestess.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's start back at the beginning a bit. Hakurou was a great and loved leader of the Mt. Leikaku bandits. They were bandits with morals, and could not be opposed because Hakurou could use the Tessen.

On day a kid was walking in the mountains and got into some trouble with the neighbouring bandits. They wanted his money and he didn't have any and so on. Just when they were about to attack Hakurou stepped in with his flaming Tessen and saved the kid. Saying how you should only steal from those that can afford it.

This kid was of course the person we know as Tasuki, who was only 14 at the time and who had just ran away from home. Hakurou tells him to go home, and tells him that he can not become a bandit even though Tasuki is begging him. He goes on his way thinking to leave the kid behind. However when he arrives at the stronghold of the bandits the kid is already there. Seeing that this unruly teen has talent he agrees to let him join and calls him Genrou, meaning phantom wolf.

He quickly becomes the leaders favourite and that does not sit well with Koji who is older then Genrou and was the favoured to be leader before he came along. So it went that Genrou and Koji challenged each other to be the best and came to be those who would succeed Hakurou.

Hakurou one day called his successors to him and told them he was dying of an illness and would not last much longer. Genrou could not believe this and went away over the mountains searching for a cure. While he was gone the leader worried about him and told Koji that Genrou will be the next leader. Unfortunately he died before Genrou came back.

Genrou looked up to Hakurou as did many others. He was a strong and just leader and was respected by all he met. Plus he just seemed like a really cool character in the Gaiden. Too bad he died before the anime took place.
