How-To Hex Clothing!

Okay! If you want to hex clothes, this is the place to be. If you follow this guide how it is written, you will successfully hex a jumper for your babyz!

Getting Started: We're going to be hexing a Jumper. First off you'll need to download a Hex Editor if you don't already have one. This link will take you to the site to download Hex Workshop, this is the hex editor I use personally.

If you want to benefit from the line numbers I provide, I recommend you using this editor. The version I use is 2.20, I've taught people to hex using different versions of Hex Workshop, and the line numbers still matched.

You will also need a bmp file to use. If you don't have one, click Here to download my red jumper with yellow stars. You may use the bmp for practice, (the bmp is called Wiz, short for wizard) please don't put the outfit you make using it on your site. Here is what your outfit will look like if you use this bmp.

Great! That done? You're ready to begin!

Step One: You need to make a copy of the "Blue Jumper" You'll find this in theC:/Program Files/Mindscape/Babyz/Resource/Clothes folder.

To make a copy is simple. Click on the file "Blue Jumper" so that the name of it is highlighted. Now right click and choose "copy". Now go to a space between the files and right click. Choose "paste". You should now have a "Blue Jumper" and a "copy of Blue Jumper" in your clothes folder.

Now it's time to open your Hex Editor! Once into your editor open up the " copy of Blue Jumper"

Step Two: Okay, now go up to the menu bar at the top of the screen and click "edit". From that menu select "Find".

In the box that pops up, you need to type this exactly. "art\" Note that the' \'is a backslash, not a forward slash '/'. If you type in "art/" It will not work. Some people have to take a moment to FIND the backslash on their keyboard. After you type in "art\" click find.

You should see the following:

height (option
al)..\art\AutoBu
ild\cottonblue4
.bmp.
0..e

You need to place your cursor directly in front of th first red 'a' at the beginning of the word 'art\' and type this in, exactly. resource\clothes\wiz.bmp . Do NOT go any further than the '0' of '0..e' . If you do, your jumper will not turn out.

If you are using your OWN bmp file, just insert the name of that file in place of "wiz" in the instructions above. If your bmp's filename exceeds the amount of space provided by typing over 'cottonblue4' RENAME the file and type the NEW name.

This is what the Blue Jumper file should look like after you've done this.

height (option
al)..\resource\c
lothes\wiz.bmp...
..
0..e

If your work does not look like this, start over! If it does, continue to the next step.

Step Three: Now you want to go UP 13 lines from \resource You will see this:

[Flat Clothing]

Directly to the left of this, on the LINE ABOVE, you will see this series of numbers and letters.

0000 0000 C83A 0000 0300 1000 0000 0000

The number in red is the one that you need to change. I myself used the code "F252" do NOT use this code, it is just an example!

You may have to try several different codes, I know I do sometimes. If your jumper does not show up in your closet, this code is most likely the reason why. Just keep trying different ones until the Jumper shows up!

It is MUCH easier to find the right code if you move all of the hexed clothing in your closet to a temporary back-up folder.

Now just type in one code and leave it for now so you can finish up your hexing. You may go back later and change this code if necessary.

Step Four: Click on "File" at the menu bar at the top of the screen, then "Save". If you're using Hex Workshop it will as if you want to make a back-up. Click no, it is unnecessary.

Now you want to go back and rename "copy of Blue Jumper". Again, you will find it in the C:/Program Files/Mindscape/Babyz/Resource/Clothes folder. To rename it right click on it and choose "rename" from the menu. Rename it anything you'd like. You can even change the word Jumper to something else.

If you successfully completed step 4. . . . . .You're DONE! Take a deep breath and open up your babyz game. Go to the changing room and see if your jumper has shown up.

TROUBLE SHOOTING: If your jumper has appeared, but when you put it on your baby it is grey, you need to convert your bmp to 256 colors. (you can do this in paint, it's not complicated) If you are using the bmp I provided, this will not be a problem as I have already converted it.

If the jumper is not showing up at all, just go back and change the code that is mentioned above.

Good luck I hope your hexing goes well! If you want to send me pictures of the Jumpers you've hexed, feel free and I will feature them up with Patrick in my Wizard Jumper!

If you have any hexing questions feel free to E-mail me. My E-mail is on my homepage. I hope I was helpful!
