This is my page of Buffy/Angel favorites
including my personal favorite villains,
favorite characters and episodes from both
shows and favorite couple.
This is text heavy and filled with my opinions so hit the back space if you aren't interested in what I'm saying :-)
Warning!! Danger!! If you haven't seen every
episode of Buffy and Angel, there are plenty of spoilers.
My favorite Villains
I thought it would be unfair to put a villain in the top ten just because I like them. So here's my personal top ten.
1. Spike - No explanation needed, it's Spike!
2. The Mayor. What can I say?
He was able to be frighteningly evil and extremely funny at the same time.
His sunny disposition, yet intensity of evil scared me more than any other
villain.
3. Faith - I like Faith for the same reason
I like Lindsey. I like the villain where it is not all black and
white. Faith is both good as a villain and a hero.
4. Lindsey. I like villains who are
not the ultimate evil. Giving Lindsey a tiny conscious added depth
to his character.
5. Ethan Rayne - Every time (except in one
episode), Ethan has always brought comedic results. In Halloween,
Ethan sold costumes that made the wearer become the character, in Band
Candy, Ethan made candy that made Adults act like teenagers.
In a New Man, Ethan turned Giles into a Demon.
6. Holland Manners. What a great skill
at manipulating people. I thoroughly enjoyed his scene in Blind
Date where he manipulates Lindsey into staying on at Wolfram and Hart.
Too bad he couldn't manipulate Darla and Drusilla.
7. Drusilla
8. Angelus
9. Mr. Trick
10. Anya. Anya was cool as a villain, but
unfortunate has more depth as a good guy.
Honorable Mentions to
Wolfram and Hart.
I have very much enjoyed the major villains
on Angel. I like the fact that they are Evil lawyers. I also
like that they are all humans. These villains became evil on their
own without the use of demons or anything magically (but I guess we'll
see about that in future episodes).
Here are some of my other favorites.
Favorite characters on Buffy
1. Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head)
- I liked the character of Rupert Giless every since I saw him in Welcome
to the Hellmouth. This isn't just because I'm a librarian. Giles
is just cool. He has a dark past and sometimes carries a chainsaw.
2. Spike (James Marsters)
3. Willow (Alyson Hannigan)- Originally
I didn't like Willow because she was too "wimpy" but eventually she became
to be one of my favorite characters because she grew and progressed.
4. Faith (Eliza Dushka)
5. Oz (Seth Green)
6. Jenny (Robia LaMorte)- I've liked Jenny
because she's was one of the first pagan characters on television that
wasn't evil (keeping secrets yes.) I was pretty upset when she got
killed.
7. Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar)
8. The Mayor (Harry Groener)
9. Anya (Emma Caufield)
10. Ethan (Robin Sachs)
Favorite Characters on Angel
1. Lindsey McDonald (Christian Kane).
I did not notice Lindsey, other than he was two dimensional villain who
was very good at manipulating people (as seen as his scene with Kate in
Sanctuary),
until the episode
Blind Date. Here, Lindsey entered the third
dimension. He received a past and depth because he could not allow
an assassin kill some children. Adding Lindsey as more of a regular (as
he appeared in many more episodes now) I believe has helped the series
somewhat recover from losing Doyle. Lindsey is a very intriguing
and unpredicable character.
2. Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter) -
Another of my least favorite characters on Buffy, but I'm starting to like
Cordelia more. She slowly become more of a two dimension characters.
This is well portrayed in the episodes
Parting Gifts, I got you
under my skin and
To Shanshu in LA. However, it's
First
Impressions that really made me suddenly like Cordelia more than
before.
3. Doyle (Glenn Quinn). When I first
heard about "Angel" I figured I'd watch it because I loved Buffy,
but my least favorite characters (Angel and Cordelia) were going to star.
It was Doyle who really bought me back to the show every week with his
comedy relief and his outlook on life. He was an awesome and fun
character and the strongest of the three. Glenn Quinn is a
very good actor. I will miss his character a lot.
4. Angel (David Boreanaz). I was never
a big fan of Angel on Buffy (except when he was Angelus), I thought his
overwhelming guilt from what Angelus had done was a bit heavy. But
my opinion on Angel has changed now that he's in the spotlight. Angel
started the season as a brooding, dark figure who did not like to interact
with people to someone who cares about those around him and his friends.
This is seen especially in
To Shanshu in LA, when Angel will stop
at nothing to get a scroll back to help Cordelia. Also Angel is starting
to get a sense of humor.
5. Charles Gunn (J. August Richards).
I have liked Gunn for what I have seen of him, which has not been enough.
Since he is supposed to be a regular in the fall, I hope he'll become more
of a character.
6. Wesley Wyndam Pryce (Alexis Denisof)
A far improvement over the Wesley from Buffy.
7. Kate Lockley (Elizabeth Rolm) -
Kate is a decent character they don't do much with.
8. Holland Manners (Sam Anderson) - I loved
Holland the first time I saw him. What skill at manipulation. I am still
in denial that he's dead.
9. David Nabbit (David Herman) - The
goofy millionaire could help Angel financially. He's a funny character
and good to have around.
10. Fred Burkle
Favorite Episode of Buffy
1. Hush--
I never realized how excellent the actors of Buffy were until I saw them
in this episode. The actors in this case cannot speak though half
of the episode. Communication is done though body language, motions
and pictures. The segment where Giles is explaining what they are
facing through a slide show is probably the most hilarious scenes I've
seen in all of the series. This is an Emmy worthy episode.
2. Band Candy
- Hilarious episode where Ethan is hireed by Mr. Trick to create a candy
bar that makes adults act like teenagers.
3. Halloween
- The first appearance of Ethan createss havoc in Sunnydale. His costume
shop makes the wearer turn into the character of the costume. Buffy
becomes an 18th century woman, Willow is a ghost, Xander thinks he's a
soldier. Great episode the marks Giles' sorted past.
4. The Zeppo
- Funny episode where Xander upset whenn he thinks he contributes nothing
to Buffy, then ends up comically saving the world.
5. Once More with Feeling.
Xander accidently does a spell where the entire town of Sunnydale burst
into Song. Joss *should* get an emmy for this.
6. Fear Itself
- Halloween episode where everyone's feear is coming true. The ending
is quite funny and disturbing as well as Anya in the bunny costume.
7. Something Blue-
Another hilarious episode where Willow, despondent over Oz's departure
decides to do a spell to make her pain go away. Instead it results
in anything she says occurs including Giles going blind, demons attacking
Xander and worse of all Buffy getting engaged to Spike.
8. Becoming Part 2-
One of the most heart wrenching episodes of Buffy. Angelus wakes the Demon
Acatha and Buffy gets help from the last person she expected, Spike. To
put Acatha back to sleep Buffy must send the person to hell who woke him--
Angelus. Unfortunately, Willow restores Angel's soul right before,
but Buffy still has to do it. There is an awesome fight scene between
Angelus and Buffy as well as a hilarious scene with Spike and Joyce Summers
sitting on the couch.
9. Superstar-
Awesome episode where Jonathan, Buffy's geeky classmate from High School
creates a spell where he is powerful and adored by all. This episode
is wonderful from credits (which makes Jonathan the center of attention)
to the end.
10. Bewitched, Bothered
and Bewildered - hilarious episode where Xander asks Amy
Madison to do a spell to make Cordelia come back to him. The results
cause every woman but Cordelia to become obsessively in love with him.
Honorable Mentions
The Wish - Cordelia's wish to Anya results in thhe universe changing where Buffy never came to Sunnydale, Xander and Willow are vamps, the hellmouth is opened and the Master is still in charge. Most of the major characters get killed.
Passion. Episode where Jenny is killed by Angelus. It's gut wrenching how Giles finds her. It also marks the first time a semi-regular has been killed. There is a wonderful interaction between Buffy and Giles at the end of the episode. It shows how much Buffy needs Giles in her life.
A New Man - Yet another appearance of Ethan where he turns Giles into a demon. Very funny scene of Giles and Spike (the only one who understands him) are cruising.
Who are You? Second Part of a two parter where Faith switches bodies with Buffy. Bravo to Sarah Michelle Gellar and Eliza Duskha who played each other very well.
Crush. Spike finally admits that he loves Buffy, but when she rejects him, he comes home to find Drusilla waiting.
Fools for Love -
After she is injured Buffy wants to learn how the other slayers died so
she could keep herself alive. This forces her to go to Spike who
has killed two Slayers. He retells the story of his life, how he
became a vampire and how he killed the two slayers, one in 1900 and one
in 1977. Angelus, Drusilla, Darla and Spike all together make a wonderful
combination. Wonderful interaction between Buffy and Spike.
The ending is just hilarious.
Favorite Episodes of Angel
1. To Shanshu in LA-
Season finale of Angel in which a demon named Vocah is raised by Wolfram
and Hart. His actions involved giving Cordelia endless visions, killing
the Oracles and blowing up Angel's office and home while Wesley is
inside. It also shows for the first time, how much Angel has grown
to care about Cordelia and Wesley. The ending is shocking: Angel
cuts off Lindsey's hand and Wolfram and Hart has brought back from the
dead -- Darla.
2. Five by Five-
The first episode of a two parter where Faith is hired to kill Angel by
Wolfram and Hart. One of the best fight scenes I've seen occur between
Angel and Faith. The ending is extremely shocking.
3. Epiphany - After a night of Passion with
Darla, Angel wakes up with his soul intacted and has a moment of clarity
where he decided he needs to return to his former way of life, but there
are many obstacles including a jealous Lindsey who has gone into redneck
form and that his friends may not want him back.
4. Reunion.
Angel tries to stake Darla before she rises at as a vampire, but he is
thwarted by Drusilla. Darla and Drusilla go on a rampage and end up at
Holland Manner's wine tasting with plans to kill all the lawyers there.
Angel arrives and despite pleads from Holland and Lilah, decides to allow
Darla and Dru to finish their massacre. Kudos in this episode to
Juliet Landau, wonderful to see Drusilla again in full form and Christian
Kane for Lindsey's smirks.
5. Dead End. Lindsey gets a new hand.
An evil hand and crosses paths with Angel. Lindsey sing, gets close
to tears, and has wonderful interaction with Angel as well as an hysterically
funny tirade at the end. However Angel gets the last laugh.
6. Blind Date -
A blind assassin is hired by Wolfram and Hart to kill three seers who happened
to be children. Angel receives help from an unusual person to save
them -- Lindsey McDonald. The verbal interaction between Lindsey
and Angel is awesome. Great episode in which makes Lindsey not only
into a better villain but better overall character. This episode also shows
Holland's skill at manipulation.
7. Reprise - Angel decides
to take Wolfram and Hart out at the source, the 'home office', only to
learn Earth is the home office. This sends Angel into despair and
into Darla's arms.
8. In the Dark
- Excellent episode and second part to Buffy episode Harsh Light of
Day. In HLOD, Buffy steals the ring of Amara from Spike and gives
it to Oz to give to Angel. However, Spike wants his rings back.
Unfortunately it falls in the hands of child killing vampire Marcus.
Angel gets the ring back, spends a day in the sun, then destroys it.
9. Lullaby. The soul of her unborn
baby gives Darla feelings and emotions for it. Unable to deliver
him, Darla stakes herself to save him.
10. Sleep Tight. Thinking he is doing
the right thing, Wesley kidnaps Connor, but Holtz is waiting for him and
steals the child taking him into a demonic realm.
Honorable Mentions
Darla - Darla begins to break down when she ffeels the guilt from having a soul. Lindsey and Angel (separately) do what they can to try and save her. Wonderful episode the shows how Darla became a vampires, Angelus first meeting with the Master (it did not go well), and how Angel tried to go back to Darla even after he got his soul.
Billy. A half demon released by Angel in That Vision Thing has the power to make men become violent against women. He causes Gavin to beat up Lilah and Wesley and Gunn to go after Fred.
Sanctuary - Second part to Five by Five. Faaith, now being protected by Angel is wanted by Wolfram and Hart, the Police and Watcher's special forces. To make matters worse, Buffy shows up in the middle of it.
Birthday. A vision puts Cordelia
in a coma where she is visited by Skip the demon who offers her a different
life without the visions.
6 Least Favorite Episodes (Doesn't mean they aren't good) I haven't found ten I didn't like.
1. Blood Money. Despite some funny elements, this episodes falls flat as a filler. Angel, seeking vengeance on Lilah and Lindsey, uses a charity auction to steal money W&H plan to steal. It's big problem is that Angel and Lindsey are terribly out of character.
2. Expecting
3. I fall to Pieces
4. The Trial. I don't think Darla was worth what Angel did. His obsession with her seemed a bit over th the top. I didn't buy her redemption. And Lindsey who seemed to care about Darla (less than his vengeance against Against Angel), but he seemed far to cold when he watched her die.
5. Lonely Hearts
6. The Thin Dead Line. Okay episodes, with horrific scenes. With all the moving around Wesley did after being shot, he should have been dead. And Anne and Cordelia leading the pimp into the shelter. I'm not surprised about Anne, but Cordelia, come on, she took on W&H guys with hot coffee.
7. She. She was a bit boring expect for the Angel and Wesley dance sequences.
8. That Old Gang of Mine. Finally Gunn
is rid of his boring street gang. White guys can't write urban youth.
Top Ten least favorite Buffy episodes.
1. The Witch
2. Into the Woods - It was sad to see Riley
go, but the episode was completely plotless and boring.
3. Wild at Heart - I so hated Veruca
and Oz who is usually very cool was acting like a complete jerk.
4. Invisible Girl
5. Where the Wild Things Are.
6. Teacher's Pet
7. As You were.
Overall favorite Character Both shows.
1. Giles
2. Spike
3. Faith
4. Lindsey
5. Willow
6. Cordelia
7. Doyle.
8. Oz
9. Jenny
10. Angel
Ten Characters to bring back.
1. Faith
2. Oz
3. Jenny
4. Holland
5. Doyle
6. Amy
7. Riley
8. Ethan
9. Mr. Trick
Favorite Couples.
1. Willow and Oz - Allison Hannigan and Seth
Green have extremely excellent chemistry.
2. Buffy and Angel
3. Willow and Tara - The chemistry between
these two are not as strong as when Willow was with Oz, but it's strong,
sweet and mind numbingly cute.
4. Giles and Jenny - Another tragic couple
who went through two break ups and seemed to be finally heading back together
when Angelus murdered Jenny.
5. Spike and Drusilla
6. Xander and Anya
7. Giles and Olivia - Giles gets a second
chance with Olivia who is very cool but hasn't been seen enough (only three
episodes!)
8. Buffy and Riley
9. Spike and Buffy - Yes, I know they are
not together, but it still funny. ;-)
10. Angelus and Darla
Outstanding episodes by the regular villains. These may not be the best episode as a character, but this shows how villainous they can be.
Adam -
Angelus - Passion, Angelus snaps Jenny's
neck to stop her from restoring his soul. Angelus torments Giles
by leaving Jenny's body in his bed. He stand outside of Buffy's house
to see how Buffy and Willow react to the news.
Anya - The Wish. Anya grants a wish to Cordelia,
gets most of the Scooby gang killed.
Colin
Darla - Reunion. Newly revamped Darla kills
at least three people and plans on massacring members of Wolfram and Hart.
Drusilla - Becoming Part 1/2. Drusilla
murders Kendra at the end of the episode. She hypnotizes Giles into
thinking she's Jenny.
Ethan - Band Candy, Ethan's candy makes
adults act like teenagers so they won't notice when the Mayor steals some
newborns to sacrifice.
Faith - This Year's Girl/Who are you.
Faith wakes from her coma, tries to beat up Buffy, kidnaps Joyce and switches
bodies with Buffy, sleeps with Riley and plans to leave town in Buffy's
body while Buffy is prisoner of the Watcher's special forces who think
she's Faith.
Glory -
Harmony - Harsh Light of Day
Holland - Blind Date, Holland has Lee shot
in the head and convinces Lindsey to stay at Wolfram and Hart.
Kathy -
Lee - Five by Five/ Sanctuary. Although
Lee gets beaten up by Faith in this episode, the dialogue between Lilah
and his is great. In Sanctuary, Lee prefers that Faith have
a painful death.
Lilah - Untouched. Lilah tries to drive
a young woman to the darkside to recruit her as an assassin for W&H.
Lindsey - The Trial. Lindsey brings
in Drusilla to revamp Darla, after Darla becomes remorseful.
Lyle and Techtor Borch - Bad Eggs
Maggie Walsh - The I in Team. Walsh tries
to get Buffy killed for being too nosy.
The Master - Prophesy Girl. The Master
kills Buffy and escapes from the Hellmouth.
Mr. Trick - Homecoming
Mayor Richard Wilkins - Graduation Part
2. The mayor turns into a demon, wreaks havoc on Sunnydale.
Spike
Synder
Vampire Willow - Doppleganger Land.
