The Writers’ Corner
Welcome to the writers’ section of the site, we are especially excited about the prospect of having promising new writers submit manuscripts to Fade’s Fiction. We’ll try and be completely honest with you throughout the submission process.
If you’ve read our vision for Fade’s Fiction, you’ve had a chance to get a glimpse of where we’d like to take this site. We want to provide enjoyable books at a more affordable price, while still being able to offer good commissions for the authors. Of course there are two key requirements for this to work. We need loyal customers, and talented writers, and to be frank the latter will help us get the former.
Our goal is to be able to promise each author about a dollar for each book sold. The industry standard is currently about 10% of the cover price, so about $.7 per book. We’ll of course initially have much lower volumes than what the established publishers have, but over time, we hope to see enough growth that our authors can make as much money on their slightly fewer sales due to their larger commission per book.
Submission Guidelines:
We are just starting out with regards to accepting submissions, so our standards are somewhat more relaxed than the existing publishing houses. Regardless, we would still like you to make an honest effort to send us a professional product. We have found that there is a distinct correlation between the effort put into polishing up a manuscript and the quality of the manuscript.
This isn’t to say that there aren’t books submitted that are very polished, but are still discarded due to a poor story line, or that it isn’t possible to receive a manuscript with an outstanding storyline, but very little in the way of polish. As a general rule however, those people who are capable of successfully completing a good novel have put in the time and effort to learn the basics of English grammar, and have their story proofread by someone who can catch some of their mistakes.
We are currently only set up to accept submission via e-mail at [email protected]. In not too distant future we will be posting information relevant for paper submissions for those of you who would prefer a more traditional method of sending novels. For now, please make sure that all attachments are saved in a rich text format. Not as critical since we can change the formatting once we have the manuscript, would be submit in a 12 point font, and using a standard font like Times New Roman.
Submitting Free Fiction:
We believe that (good) books will lead to additional sales. If you have something original, we would love to see it, but we are also interested in high quality fan fiction. Obviously we can’t sell fan fic due to the fact that we don’t have the rights to the universes it is set in, but if you are interested in selling other work, quality fan fiction can help create a base of eager readers who will be interested in purchasing your subsequent work.
In short, the more quality writing we can offer visitors to Fade’s Fiction, the more positive their response will be, and the more easily we’ll be able to generate higher numbers of sales for all of our writers. If you have piece that fits this description we would encourage you to dust it off, make one more editing pass and then submit it to Fade’s Fiction making special note that it is fan fiction that you would like considered for the free fiction archive.
