Saito is a cool, calm, and collected man to sum it up, but there is a lot more to him than meets the eye. As his job requires that he be investigative and inquisitive, Saito has no problems talking with people. Fortunately, hes also gifted with a silver tongue, so he can say one thing and mean another; essentially, hes mastered the art of lying and not showing any evidence of it. This makes him very hard to question and get the truth out.
Surprises come to him just like everyone; some will get to him, and some will not. Even though hes pretty good at figuring out peoples secrets and discerning lies, some things will still surprise him. Hes only human, and he still has emotions like everyone else. Anger will cloud his thinking more than sadness will, so he tries to keep both of them under control. He is pretty much apathetic in a thinking state, and it allows him to think clearly.
When he is working, Saito is usually alone. Being alone protects Saito from relationships; having had his heart broken too many times he prefers to remain a bachelor. Women tend to have an odd effect on Saito, making him uneasy if not susceptible to any tricks they might have. Thus he has tried to avoid them ever since.
As Saito is part of the Karakura Police Department, he has a passion for law and justice. Sometimes he can be a rebel, but he will try to do his job without fail most of the time if his heart and head agree with it. Other than that, he just does what he feels he has to. When faced with a difficult situation, he has the capacity to shoot his gun at whom he feels to be an opponent.
Saito was born to a middle class family in Tokyo, Japan in the late summer of 1981. His father was a police officer and his mother was a sales associate for a local department store. Back then, life was good as he had plenty to eat, a good school to go to, and plenty of help and support from his mother and father. As Saito admired his fathers job, he dreamed that one day he would be a police officer.
When he was in high school, things began to change for Saito. He began to see images of people that no one else could see, people who had chain links attached to their chests. Saito thought it was weird, but he paid little mind to it. He was more concerned about his relationship with his girlfriend, which was going sour really fast. Eventually Saitos girlfriend dumped him to go out with a more sports-adept person, leaving him to be alone.
Just after High School, Saito was attacked by a giant insect-like monster that wore a freaky white mask over its face and had a gaping hole in its chest. Thinking that it was an evil clown spirit that came back to take revenge, Saito turned on his heel and ran as fast as he could. With the monster in hot pursuit, Saito witnessed a man in white fire what looked like a neon-colored bow at the beast, the arrow making it disintegrate. Saito didnt bother to stick around any longer to find out who the man was or what the monster was, as he had something to do.
A few years later, after Saito graduated with a Masters degree in Law Enforcement and a Bachelors degree in Telecommunications, Saito landed a job with the Karakura Police Department, taking the job of a detective in the street cop division. His father had retired from the line of duty, leaving Saito to be able to return home if he ever had to ask him about any strange experiences that Saito may have to share. Even though he still saw the strange images, he was never attacked by another monster to date.
