Bisecting a Line

Objective:

Divide a line segment  into two

congruent segments.

 

1.- Label the line segment - (AB).

 

2.- Place the tip of the compass at point A

      and use any convenient radius to draw

      arcs above an below  segment AB. 

   -  The radius (the opening of the compass)

      should be more than a half of the distance

      A-B.

     

        

3.- Place the tip of the compass at

      point B and use the same radius 

      (see last step) to draw arcs  above 

      and below segment AB.

     - Label  the intersection of the 

      segments (C and D).

      

4.-  Draw a line passing through points 

       C and D.
