The Odorants + Wasted + Blueprint @ Lutakko, Jyvskyl (Friday March 14, 2003)

By Tuomas Koskinen

This time our crew was only me, Juhani and Hilja.

Once again we went there early because I did an interview with Wasted. After that I (of course!) bought some records from Combat Rock Industry's distro and said hi to some mates...that is always my routine. Juhani said "I don't have any money so I won't buy anything" but when I said there was a Madball record he woke up and bought it. Hilja asked which CD would be good and I recommended No Shame's "Rebound For Glory" because I thought it would be good melodic punk and it was cheap. I haven't heard her opinion on the CD yet... I was excited when I noticed that the flipper was free! No paying! So I spent some time with it... Me and Juhani noticed that there was some teens and of course we acted like scene gods and were like "What the fuck are those guys doing here?" I know, it was stupid and Ill try to be less narrow minded next time. I don't mean those guys need to grow a mohawk or anything, but they just looked like sterotypical teens... But who the fuck am I to say what someone should or should not wear. I also met Tume who loaned me a movie called Repo Man. Thanks for the loan!

The first band was Blueprint. Blueprint has guys from Endstand and their drummer plays in Hero Dishonest. Somehow I thought it would be some kind of emo-hardcore, but boy I was wrong. They were a really positive surprise even though some of the songs sounded too similar to each other and some of the melodies remind me Endstand (kind of obvious because the guitar player is from Endstand...) Good show anyway.

After a break Wasted started. I thought they would play last because they're the best band, but somebody decided differently, but who cares about that? I really wanted to hear songs from the new 10" and they played 3 songs of the 5. The new songs kick ass more than ever! Of course they played old classics like "One Of Them" and "Disconnected". Jani from Manifesto Jukebox played bass this gig because their original bass player, Kalle, wasn't able to come. Wasted played a great gig like they always do, but the crowd sucked. Goddamn, there was me and maybe four other guys dancing and maybe 10 guys/girls in front of the stage. Little bit of action in the pit next time, please?

The last band was The Odorants. I had heard a little bit of some of their songs when I watched Extreme Duudsonit (Jackass clone in Finland). I knew they played that kind of punk I hate: melodic, more or less poppy punk like Blink 182 etc. Yuck! That's why me and Juhani were like rock-police and sat when they played their set. When they started to play they weren't so bad I thought, but I can't say I liked them. Too poppy for me. But it was nice to see that the people who came to watch them liked them Good for them! Then I understood that most of people had come to see this band and that's why they weren't so excited about Wasted (but they should've been!). A funny part was when the singer of The Odorants said: "There's Wasted records and shirts in the distro, behind the stage. Go there and buy some stuff" Then those teens went to buy some records... Why they didn't they go before someone said it? A couple of times I asked "Why didn't we go home after Wasted?" but we watched the whole set. When it was time for the encore the singer said they would play a Queers cover and I was interested in what kind of stuff that is. It wasn't anything special so we went home...

I end my gig report here.
