This time I won't write any bullshit intro crap. (oops. I did it again...)
I think it's a good idea to release a split LP instead of both bands releasing 10"s. It's kind of like buying one 10" for almost same price...
The Stakeout is old school hardcore from Turku. Let's say the Minor Threat of Finland... Their split with Wasted was good and solid stuff, but I missed their EP when it was released (actually I bought it the same day I bought this split-LP).
In this split LP they do their job very well too.
Like I said, songs are old school hardcore � la Minor Threat. The bass lines are good, the vocals are raw enough, and the guitar riffs sound good too. The drummer does something other than just bang-bang beating which is always nice. This kind of music is simple and I think the good drummer having a huge influence is good. And like every review, I have to give a line about the backing vocals. There are enough and they're good.
The songs kick ass. The lyrics have the point. They're more or less political; mostly personal, I think. �Catch Phrase� has good lyrics. It's about how people try to find direction by listening punk music. My favorite track is �Blank Mind�. The first part is really good.
I had never heard of Burnpile. After listening their side, I'm not sure I want hear this band again. It's like black metalcore or something. All of the songs sound the same. When I put the needle on a random place I didn't notice the difference in the song I jumped to. Their cover art has demons and crosses, upside down things like old metal bands like Slayer.
Even though I didn't like Burnpile, I think The Stakeout is worth buying this. And who knows, maybe Burnpile is your thing?
