This CD was in a sale bin, so I picked it up because I was interested to hear what punk was like in the �70s or something� Still can�t believe it took four months to write this review. Laziness�my best friend and my worst enemy�
The record has singles from various artist from England in the 1970s. Musically it�s �77 punk (like no one would notice it�) Most of the bands were bands you have never heard of except Slaughter & The Dogs. Their first two songs are really good punk rock.
After Slaughter comes The Nosebleeds. Really good punk rock too! Maybe the best songs on this record. It would be cool to cover this band�
John Cooper Clark�s lyrics are actually poems, I found out while I surfed the internet. �Innocents� is a really good song too. I don�t know if I really like the next two of his songs. Maybe too artsy for me.
The next good song is �Man In A Box� by V2. The melody is sad, but the song still rocks. I would like to cover this one too. Their second song �When The World Isn�t There� is not bad either.
After little bit of rockabilly rock kind of distractions comes more stuff from Slaughter & The Dogs. Good songs, but not as good as their first two songs on this record.
The last band, Victim, is good punk rock stuff too.
In the booklet is information about the released records and the CD includes all of the singles/EP�s except for Skrewdriver�s �Build Up Knocked Down�. I think it�s bad they left Skrewdriver out. Yeah, they turned to nazi crap later, but they weren�t a nazi band back then and I�ve heard that they were really good.
This CD is a really good investment if you�re interested in what punk was like in the early days. Some of the songs are really good.
