I finally got these Palokka's punk rockers demo. After hearing Never Look Back from the Reel to Reel collection, I really got into Presley Bastards. (Isn't that a cool name or what?)
The first song, Eyelash And Broken Glass is fucking ace. Good, melancholy guitar melodies and whoo-oos in the chorus. I like very much the way singer Masa sings. I think that title Palokka's Elvis is not far from the truth. And I think this band has found their style really early in their career; this is their first demo. The lyrics are about their personal lives (I think) and I think those kinds of lyrics are perfect in this kind of music.
The second song, Not Just Me, keeps the line. It's maybe a little bit slower, but a good punk 'n' roll song anyway. And I have to say that the drummer, Tompe, is a good punk 'n' roll drummer. Enough fills or whatever the fuck those things are.
Then comes my favorite, Never Look Back! Catchy riffs, sing-a-long kind of chorus, and good solos. If someone needs something more, better get some jazz-fusion or something, but I want my punk 'n' roll as punk 'n' roll. If someone asks me what punk 'n' roll is, I would play this song to them! Always makes me smile!
The last song is Forced Smile. At first I thought it was too long or something, but when I listen to this, I can't complain.
The sounds are so good that I think this could've been an official release. A 7" wouldn't have been bad...
Finland doesn't have too much of this kind of music which is like a 50/50 mix between punk and rock. If you like Social Distortion you might like Presley Bastards. Check this out even if you don't.
