MC 5: Kick Out The Jams CD (Elektra)

By Tuomas Koskinen

If youve read my column about how I got into rock n roll, I bet some of you thought its only a matter of time until I review thisor maybe not

Anyway, like the booklet says: MC 5 were punk before punk, new wave before new wave, metal before metal and even MC before Hammer. Since I got into The Stooges and heard that the MC 5 were like big brothers to Iggy and co, I knew I had to get this record.

And when I got this, I have to say, I loved it. Its kind of hard to believe someone had so much energy in the 60s! (Well, Iggy & The Stooges had it too). This record has the true sound of rock n roll, but theres some progressive parts too. I wont say anything else about the members of the band except that they play really well. God I love those guitar sounds, guitar solos, and guitar everything! And of course its because of the legendary Wayne Kramer and Fred Sonic Smith. Singer Rob Tyner got soul in his voice.

What else can I say? All of the songs kick the jams out of you. My favorite songs are Kick Out The Jams, Come Together, Awesome Rocket Reducer No. 62 (Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa), and Starship. When Im listening to this kind of record, its hard to beat because the power goes through me. God I love that feeling.

Nuff said. Get this record and feel the power. Lets kick out the jams, motherfuckers!
