Kid Dynamite: S/T LP (Jade Tree)

By Tuomas Koskinen

This record was praised on several sites on the internet, but when I bought this LP and after listening to it a couple of times it didn't impress me. I think that maybe it's just a matter of time till I start to like it.

It's been four weeks or so since I bought this and I guess it's time for its judgment.

In theory, everything seems to be fine. This is hardcore with a positive mentality. Maybe like Gorilla Biscuits. The singer has a personal voice and the songs are different enough. The songs are mostly fast, but some of them have slower parts as well. I don't remember anything special about the lyrics either expect there were some clever parts.

But somehow this is out of my grasp. It's ok stuff and I wouldn't turn it off when if it were to come on the radio. I don't know, but somehow I think this is "college hardcore." Don't ask why, but I think if college people listen to hardcore it would sound something like this...

"Shiner" is a very good song, good musically and lyrically. And "ph. decontrol" is a good song too. The chorus goes "whoo-ooo-oo"...

This wasn't a bad record, but still a little disappointing. Its worth of checking out anyway. I can't say what's wrong with this record. It just doesn't hit me like good records do.
