Danko Jones: Born A Lion CD (Bad Afro)

By Tuomas Koskinen

Danko Jones knocked me down like Sugar Ray Robinson did at his gig in Lutakko. KO! So of course I had to buy the CD...

It's always easy to write about something I like, but how should I put it into words...

Let's start off about their music: it's not more or less ROCK*N*ROLL! It's sweaty and dangerous.

The guitar-riffs are simple, but there are a lot of melodies. The bass-lines by John Calabrese are great. And drummer, Damon Richardson, plays well too. But I think the most impressive thing is the singer/guitarist, Danko Jones', voice. Mr. Jones knows exactly what he's doing and knows how a rock n roll-singer should sing.

The lyrics are typical (I should say classic) rock stuff about women. But hey, this ain't political crust core or tuff guy hardcore. This is rock n roll.

Tracks like Play The Blues, World Is Bond, Way To My Heart, Suicide Woman, Papa, Lovercall, Sound of Love, and Love Is Unkind will get into your mind and make you feel the true spirit of R'N'R. Did you notice that I mentioned 8 tracks of 11...?

This is the first record in a long time that really gives me shakes. God I love those shakes. This is also my soundtrack for this spring. Probably even for this coming summer.

Forget all those death metal bands who spit blood and turn crosses upside down. It's not heavy. I lost my soul to Rock 'N Roll.

I noticed how many times I wrote Rock N Roll, but it's because I'm really excited about Danko Jones.
