All Systems Go & Division Of Laura Lee @ Lutakko, Jyvskyl (Wednesday March 19, 2003)

By Tuomas Koskinen

This gig was on a Wednesday, but it wasn't a difficult choice between sleeping or rocking. I can go to school almost every day, but gigs are only not as frequent. I haven't heard either of bands music, but it didn't bother me. Rock is rock.

I went early like always. I listened to the music that the DJ played. A good moment was when he played Bombshell Rocks, a not so good moment was when he played Green Day. I also checked out the distro, but there wasn't anything I was interested in. Actually, the majority of those bands they had records for were totally unknown to me.

All Systems Go played first. The music was punk rock as some of you might know. They played well but ASG is not really my kind of shit. I think they were too poppy or something. I don't know. But they didn't go wrong when they covered The Stooges' TV-Eye. Iggy rocks! The singer also made funny comments, but I can't remember what. When someone shouted "play Subzero!" the singer said "If someone here knows our song I think they deserve to hear it." It wasn't bad, but not my kind of stuff.

After a break I noticed that there were some guys I know so I chatted with them. And bought soda.

Then Division Of Laura Lee started to play. They played a really personal mixture between rock and pop. I liked them. I was confused, but I liked them. I think I would like them more if I had heard the songs a couple of times. The guitar player was really good and I think he has kind of a progressive (isn't that what those good musicians do?) sound. Very good melodies, etc.. DOLL was really good. I recommend everyone check 'em out if youre looking for some personal rock with melodies. Maybe I should buy their record, but after that gig I wasn't quite sure about it. DOLL is odd, but a good band.

After DOLL played I went home to sleep and I was worried about how I would wake up the next morning because I had to go to school at 9:00.
