This gig was the first gig of my "rock week." It was a rock week because I went to four gigs that week. I will review the rest of gigs when I get something done...
After talking shit with some pals I bought two records from the distro. Unkind's Mieliemme Tuhkasta and Tear It Up's Nothing To Nothing. Reviews will be coming when I get them done...
The first band was Unkind. I saw their gig in Ramparock (actually they were the only band I knew, AP and SME I hadnt heard of before) and they totally rocked there so I expected they would rock here too...and so they did! I can't say that I usually like crust punk stuff, but if this is crust punk, I can say without a doubt that I like it! Unkind has great, sad melodies, fast songs, and good, almost screaming, vocals and in my opinion it's beautiful. Their new songs sounded really good to me and I can't wait till they release new stuff... This is maybe one of the hottest bands in Finland right now. In my opinion they were the best band of this night. Brilliant!
After Unkind Sunday Morning Einsteins took to the stage. They played simply PUNK. Fast punk with great bass lines. The guys from Artimus Pyle wondered how he played those lines. And I wondered too. They weren't bad, but I wasn't really excited either. But a good punk band anyway. Worth checking out if you like PUNK.
The last band was Artimus Pyle. They played Tragedy kind of stuff, but faster and shorter. Like SME, they were good but I wasn't really excited. The bass player/singer had a long beard (like ZZ Top) and if someone has a beard like that, the band can't suck. And they didn't. The funniest episode was when their set was over, but people shouted for more. The guys of AP were like "We will play some more if those guys who are sitting in back want it" They shouted: "You wanna hear more?" but nobody answered. They even talked about something about free beer, but there was no response. Then they shouted a third time "Do you want us to play some more?" Then one guy from the back (Vellu) answered: "What?" The bass player laughed and said: "Third time and then someone answers!" Then they played some more and ended.
But the show wasn't over yet: The guys of AP asked if we wanted to hear something else. Then there was a couple of guys (Vellu, the singer of SME, and some other guys) who taught them how to play a Disorder cover (I'm not quite sure if it was a Disorder cover). It was really funny, because the guys of AP just played when Vellu tried to teach it to them, Vellu shouted "SHUT UP!" and told them how they should play it. Of course everyone took it with humor, AP bass player/singer just laughed. Even though their music wasn't really my kind of stuff (not bad either), they seemed to be good guys. And I can say the same about SME. Its great to see that bands from other countries will come to Finland too.
It was a good night. I had fun, met pals, got records, and heard some good music. The next day my wake up call was at 7:00, but you can sleep whenever you want, but gigs are not that often.
