Anti-Heros: That's Right/Don't Tread on Me CD (GMM)

Review by Tuomas Koskinen

Finally Im getting started on this Anti-Heros review, probably because I'm a lazy piece of shit...well, that's enough bullshit, back to business.

The Anti-Heros are the most widely known Oi! band in the US. This CD includes their first two albums: That's Right and Don't Tread on Me. At first this CD was a little disappointing. My expectations were probably too high. I thought it would be harder or something, but the songs never sounded bad so kept listening to it. I knew that it may get better time after time and I was right.

The music isn't anything really unique. These records were recorded in 1985-88. Otherwise, this is really honest stuff and I think there is always a place in music that is done honestly.

The lyrics are classic Oi! lyrics about drinking and fighting with some humor, but some of the songs criticize how things are. For example, National Dept tells us how the US sends soldiers to countries that are not even a threat and Dark Street is a story about how people get killed in the streets. The Bomb has good sarcastic (I hope it is sarcasm) lyrics about why the USA rules the world. Many of those drinking, fighting, and having fun songs are also really funny. All Hail To Santa is excellent. Of course there are some skinhead pride songs. I guess those songs tell us what it is like being a skinhead. I like the way Mark Noah writes the lyrics: not too serious and with some in yer face attitude.

I think Don't Tread on Me is a better album than That's Right because Don't Tread on Me has more of its own sound. That's Right is not bad either.

For me it's kind of hard to listen to both of these albums one after the other because it gets boring after about 40 minutes, but of course, I can press the Stop button. Both of these albums are long enough. This is good music when I want to listen to something not so serious. The Anti-Heros are Oi! legends as well. Get this if you wanna hear some good Oi! or a band that has given and will give many inspirations to many bands.
