Wing Tai started as a garment factory in Hong Kong in 1955. The garment business expanded into Singapore and a private limited company, Wing Tai Garment Manufactory (S) Pte Ltd was incorporated in Singapore on 9 August 1963. In 1987, Wing Tai started to be active in property business. It later became a public limited company and assumed its present name on 17 January 1989. The Company is an investment holding company.
Today, Wing Tai is an emerging property player in Asia in property development, investment and management. It has property developments in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. Besides property, the Group's principal activities also include apparel retailing as well as trading and retailing of architectural products. The Group has also started its first serviced apartments in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, called Lanson Place Serviced Residences. It has also recently started an Internet Data Centre offering infrastructural support to companies and Internet start-ups in their e-commerce development plans.
FY01 - Development properties 33.7%, invest properties 25.5%, retail 15.85, architectural products 24.5%, invest holdings and other 0.5%.
FY01 profit fell on lower contribution from property development projects and absence of $52.5m exceptional gain made previously. Expects additional provision for foresee losses on development properties to result in a loss for FY02.
