The German designed Messerschmitt ME-262
The ME-262 was the worlds first combat operational
turbo jet aircraft. It was designed by Willy Messerschmitt. The ME-262 was
used in many roles by the World War 2 German Luftwaffe. These roles were
fighter, interceptor, photo recon, and bomber. The jet saw limited action in
the war and had no real impact on the outcome of the conflict. This is
primarily due to its late introduction. German claims are that 509 Allied
aircraft were destroyed by the ME-262 with around 100 lost in action.
