| Don't hide behind the couch You know someone will always find you Remember to clear the history And don't make a sound after bedtime Hide the books, the pons, the pills In the bottom drawer along with the rest Be secretive about everything From your poems to what you will wear tomorrow Revise your account of what you have eaten Practise your smile with which you greet Your mum and dad after the hardest day In order to keep them from worry And you from interrogation For it gets in you Beyond your wildest dreams And speaking of dreams The one you had last night It didn't mean anything when you smiled But the one you have just about every night That one is real and will haunt you Another secret from the bottom drawer Your box is full to the brim Gets close to the time to clear it out Memories, but I can't yet they'll spill Like juice on your mums favourite carpet Such a disgrace she son't be too happy With you and yourself and maybe me too Run to your room and cover your ears Immerse yourself in music And write a few lines about life and of love Wonder remember imagine be clever Think And never stop to sleep |
