Quatre’s Uchuu no Kokoro

Hmm . . . uchuu no kokoro.  I suppose literally that is the heart of the universe, right?  I think that sounds a lot better than "space heart"—but I'm going to use the latter just for the sake of quicker typing!  I must admit, I love to mock him for it.  But I love Quatre, and I love his psychic/empathic abilities.  And I think a lot of people use it in interesting ways in their fanfics.  I'm not going to tell people what to do in this article, instead I'm just going to ponder Quatre's link to the heart of the universe.

Now, in the last episode, doesn't Quatre say that he was mistaken, and that Heero is the heart of space?  Hmm . . . so does that mean he's been feeling Heero this whole time?  I tend to think so.  I honestly don't think Quatre's empathic or psychic when it comes to the other guys.  If he is, it's very mild.  I can only remember him dealing with Heero.  I like to interpret this as their own special bond.  *sigh* ^_^

Quatre definitely has a link to Heero—it can't be denied.  He clutches his heart when Heero self-detonates (but Trowa snaps him out of that one easily!), and halfway through the series he manages to take whatever it is that makes Heero glow, and bring it up to his own chest, thus making Quatre glow. I think that was really weird, but cool, because Quatre was suddenly able to understand (gasp) that Heero wanted to be with Relena!  Seriously, can you deny that's what Heero wanted, considering that he saw a big mental picture of Relena hovering in the air above him and he said her name?  I think that's a little too much to deny.  He'd given up on killing her by then.

Okay, so Quatre has a definite link.  No problem.  I think everyone will buy that.

But can Heero link back?

There's no evidence, naturally.  We're not given such a great insight into Heero's heart (considering that he's just a tad more reserved than Quatre).  I think it would be really cool to assume that he does.

That would make that whole Zero-Quatre episode really interesting--even more so if you throw in a 1x3 for kicks!  It would be really interesting to delve into Heero's psyche, and analyze why he's so quick to attack Quatre, even if they are psychically linked.  Maybe it's because they're linked to each other.  Perhaps Heero felt invaded by the sudden pang in his chest when Mr. Winner died, or when Quatre destroyed the colony.  What if they share joy as well as pain?  Perhaps that's why Heero was so quick to cheer Quatre up on the beach that night.  Maybe that's why Heero wanted Quatre to have the Zero System installed in Sandrock. 

I don't know . . . these are just little things drifting around in the back of my head.  I think Quatre's space heart is a little corny, but if it leads to a 4x1/1x4 I'm all up for it!  I think it could lead to Heero's emotional epiphany—when he realizes that he does have a heart, and he has feelings that can be crushed or cradled by another man/woman.  It would be an interesting scenario if their connection encourages them to fall for the same person, too.

I do like fanfics where Quatre is aware of the feelings Heero has for Duo because of his uchuu no kokoro.  It's really sweet.  But I think it would be cooler if you build something romantic (or even platonic) between Heero and Quatre with it.
