| intro For you out there whom do not know who Ryan Gee is you better! Because he is one of the top photographers in the industry these days! Gee is so good that he didnt have to move out to Cali to make it big. Instead he stayed in Philly and shot all the peeps around there. He is an awesome photographer and has a great style all of his own! Okay so how did you get into photography? Just by filming my friends all the time when I was younger. I took it into another format .. wich is photography around 1991'. Creating an image that would be still forever intrigued my intrests alot. What was your first camera you had? Some old 35mm Mamiya Are you self taught or did you take formal photo classes? Both. I went to a community college for 3 semesters for b&w prining. After that, I quit and learned off of other profesionals. Any college classes? A few classes. When did you realize you could do this for a living? And when did you feel that became a professional photographer? When the money started to roll in. I never and basically still dont call myself a proffesional photographer. I guess I am, but I'd just tell people that I'm a photographer/videographer. What was your first ever printed photo? TRANSWORLD early 1994', Ron Knigge interview. He was one of the biggest pro's back then and rode for New Deal. Also, he lived 2 towns away from me. So that helped out alot. And growing up outside of NYC during that time helped out aswell too. Canon or Nikon and why? Neither. Hasseblad is what I shoot with. But I have a backup 35mm for sequences wich is a Canon Eos1nRS wich shoots 10 frames a second. So I would say Canon in the 35mm field. But for medium format camera's, its Hasseblad. These days do you think it is harder to become a professional skate photographer? Definitally yes!! If your in the industry for awhile and you have certain riders on lockdown that you've been shooting for years, it harder for other photographeres to come up. And what do you recommend for people that want to become a photographer? Just start out with the basics. Dont rush into the expensive stuff. Learn how to shoot first, and then over time, feel the grasps of where your heading. Have you shot other subjects besides skateboarders such as sporting events etc? I've shot alot of modeling stuff for girls and also snowboaring and motorcross. I got to ask you who you like to shoot photos with the best? Kerry Getz, Mark Appleyard, Eric Koston and Chris Cole. They get their shit done fast!! How do you feel about all the filmers these days? How do you deal with them getting in your shots? Do you got to lay the smack down or what? It sucks, but its getting to a point were I'm used to it. I'll work it out on whoever I'm with though. So still doing some filming? yeah, but I've been leaning into more photography the past 2 years. Its hard to do both at once. All us filmers cant wait till Christmas for Chomp On This, and I have heard you got to some mad footy is this true? Right now I got about 2 minutes of footage. Its funny!! I'm doing rough edits on it now. |
