The Goa Trip and The Majorda Beach Resort!!!
I had been on a trip to Goa with my office colleagues. It was a 3day trip. The trip was fantastic. I enjoyed it to the hilt. That too being the first time i was visiting Goa, it was real fun. The whole trip was full of rich and new experiences.
Everything required for the onward train journey was packed from here itself. We carried lots of water bottles, cool drinks and also some eatables. The train was 2 hrs late. So, the train scheduled to leave yeshwantpur station (in bangalore) at 9:00 p.m. left only at 11:00. That night we had lots of fun playing Antakshari... It was about 3:00 am when we slept that night.
The next day all of us were up by some 7 O'clock. Then we had idli and vada for breakfast. As the train was running 2 hrs behind the schedule, we reached Margaon, the station where we had to get down, at 3:00 in the afternoon. Enroute Margaon, there are a no. of mud tunnels... They are basically, tunnels made in valleys for the trains to pass through.
All of us were already tired by the time we reached the hotel. We stayed
at the Majorda Beach Resort. It is a 5 star hotel.. with all facilities.. indoor
and outdoor swimming pools, very comfortable rooms, casino etc. Then we had our bath,
followed by lunch. That evening, we went to the beach. It was so nice to feel the beach water after a long long time. We got fully wet in the water...
The waves were quite high.. esp.. owing to the full moon day that was just 2
days away. Having spent that day in water, we went to bed after having a
sumptuous dinner.
The next day, was filled with lots of activities. In the morning we had the games that we had planned. We had sack race and then the three-legged race. It was fun to see everyone jump and walk with their legs tied to the other persons'. This was followed by the kite flying competition. Actually, I have never flown a kite before. I learnt how to tie the string and how to let the kite in the air.
We couldn't have the castle building game as we had planned because of lack of time.
Then comes the most interesting part of the trip.... The Bump Ride.
My God! It was soooo thrilling. U will be sitting on a rubber tube which is tied to a water scooter. So, u go along with the water scooter. The water
scooter goes really fast ( 60 or 70 Km/hr (in water that's quite a good speed)).
While on the ride, u cant even open your eyes to see what's ahead of u. Due to
the speed and also the waves, water keeps splashing on the face. If you don't
hold on tightly to the tube, u will definitely fall off. That guy in the water scooter will try his best to push u off the tube!!
Luckily, none of us fell down.
Then, we had lunch and set out for sight seeing. We first
visited the Church of Bong Jesus. It is the church of the Infant Jesus. In this church,
we can find the Relix of St. Francis Xavier which has remained uncorrupted for so many years now even without the use of any
chemicals. His body is kept on public display once in every 10 years. Opposite the church is the world's largest
Cathedral. It was closed when we went there. So, just had a look at it from the outside.
Next, we went to the DolaPaula Beach.
Nothing much there. Then, we went
on a river cruise. We went on a boat which took us around River Mandovi. It was great. We saw the 5 star Hotel Mariot on the bank of the river.
Then we returned to the hotel for dinner. All of us were too tired, yet went to the casino after dinner. Hey..
I also gambled.
I bet on the Roulette Table. I didn't win anything though.. That was the last activity for the day.
On Monday morning, all of us had breakfast and assembled early at
around 8:00a.m. in the beach, for the dolphin cruise. On the way to a near by island, the boat was stopped in a place where there were many dolphins.
We could catch sight only of a few of them though. Once on the island, all of us wore the life jacket. Then, we were taught "Snorkeling". The sea
was very shallow there.. the bed was only some 3-4 feet deep. All of us were floating and swimming with our life jackets. Then we wore glasses to
prevent water from getting into the eyes.. and also a tube in the mouth to breathe. We put
our heads under water...(breathing through our mouths).. and could see the sea bed. It looked so nice as if the sea bed was lit
up from below. I saw many fishes and some rocks... I don't know how to explain it but the
experience is so much different and nice.
Then, we left for the hotel.. had lunch.. then did some shopping. Actually, Goa is not a good place to shop. Its only a place, where we there are lots of beaches, churches and temples to see. We then had dinner in Martin's Corner and then left for the station. Boarded the train at 9:00p.m and reached here at 12:00. Didn't feel like coming back.
Goa is a very nice place and anyone should definitely
visit it if u get a chance....One thing I missed was para-sailing because of lack of time.
On the whole the trip was a very memorable one. I enjoyed it a lot. If any of you get a chance to get
your hands on any of the water sports,
don't miss it. The water scooter, para sailing, snorkeling are life time
experiences!!!
Geetha.
