Here is the stuff on the F/A-18 Hornet.

If you don't know what an F-18 is, read on.

Here is all the stuff I know about the F-18 Hornet.

The F-18 Hornet was originaly going to be the F-17 but government budgeting made the U.S. Goverment decide on the F-17 or the YF-22. They came to the decision the they wanted to make an aircraft that was like the F-17 but not an F-17. The government began reciving bids from numerouse aircraft companies like Northrop and Mcdonnel-Douglas. Both companies were charged with building an aircraft like the F-17. After both companies reported finished with their aircraft, the government held a "Fly-off". Both aircraft were superb fighters, but the government also wanted a multi-role aircraft. This aircraft would be able to transform from a fighter to a bomber with only the flip of a switch.

The F/A-18 Hornet was born. The first flight of the Hornet was on 28 Nov. 1979.

The F-18 has been used in many types of interventions, and widely used in the Gulf War(1990-91). Only one F-18 was lost in the entire war, and that was at the beginning of the war. However the pilot has yet to be found, the pilot is belived to be an MIA (Missing In Action).
