Introduction
Just recently the Texel handicap system committee has announced that they would alter the handicap calculation formula a bit. This new Texel system has come into effect on 1 march 2002. The ISAF system will continue as we know it.

In this page we will compare the Texel and ISAF rating numbers of the Formula 16 to other cat designs and A-cat class and F18 class in particular

Comments

The board measurements are the dimensions that have been officially accepted by the SCHRS committee as average F16 board dimensions. The ISAF mainsail measurement is bigger than that of Texel because ISAF measures the mast area over the entire mast. The 7 kg's weight deduction is a Texel rule and is also applied to the other genaker boats like the F18's.

Obviously
the F16 HP has an equal to A-cat class handicap rating under the ISAF (SCHRS) handicap system.

The other big handicap system in the world are the Portsmouth (USA) and Victoria (AUS) yardsticks these have a rating at this time but they need to converge to their true rating over time and therefor are undependable at this time. One side effect of this is that F16 regulary win handicap racing under these systems are their handicap is still "a peach"; we actually requested faster ratings several times but didn't get one as the committee members didn't believe a 16 ft platform could go that fast. They are starting to believe it now.
Go here for the current USA Portsmouth ratings. At this time the Victoria Yardstick still used a modification factor to the Taipan 4.9 rating.

Obviously the F16 HP has an
equal to F18 class handicap rating under both the ISAF (SCHRS) and Texel handicap systems. Only when the F16 is fitted with an aluminium mast is she rated slower but there is talk of abandonning this carbon mast correction and rated both masts the same as Texel does.
