Anna's Trip to Thailand
Details of my year long trip teaching Biology at Global English School
Cambodian Adventure Part 2

STOP!!!!! First you need to read about my teaching update (which is 2 entries down), then read part 1 of my  cambodian adventure then scroll back up and read about Angkor Wat. OKAY now go read those.

Now that you know how my trip to Siem Reap was I will tell you how Angkor city was. We had a really nice breakfast on Friday morning at our guest house resturant. I ended up having pancakes with banana and pinapple. It was soooo good! Then around 9:30 or 10am we left for the park.  Our guest house provided transportation for a small fee of 9 dollars for this vehicle called a tuk-tuk to take us around the park letting us see the major ruins. This was a very good thing. We were planning on renting bikes and biking to the park and biking around everywhere. We would have been sooo exhausted and cranky if we would have done this. It was very hot and sunny both days we were there and the park was huge. So it was well worth the money to ride around in a motorized vehicle all day and have more energy to climb around in the ruins.

We got to the park around 10:30 and purchased our tickets. This is a national park so we had to pay to get in.  As soon as we got to the first temple we were bombarded  by children  asking  us to buy water , hats, books etc.  At first we just said no, but then they kept begging us to buy stuff from them.  After awhile we just ignored them and went on to see the  ruins. The first  thing we saw was  Angkor Wat. This was huge. We spent 2 hours looking around and we could have spent more time there.  I can not out into words what it was like to be in a place that is so ancient that man had built. We  were also surrounded by the reason they built a lot of these temples, to worship other gods besides the true and living God. It was a constant reminder  everytime we walked around we saw statues and incense being offered for loved ones. It was very sad to see people following such an empty religion. You need to see the pictures I took to understand how enourmous this place was. And it was only the first ruin we saw that day.

We moved from there to another ruin called Bayon. This was a place where faces were carved into stone. Again it was amazing to think that men had made this. It was here that we had lunch. I had fried rice with hamm pinapple and cashews. It was so delicious and was served to me inside a carved out pinapple. That was very cool to see. For the rest of the after noon we continued to travel around the park. We made it through the first small loop. That evening we went to a resturant called the Blue Pumpkin. This was a cool place to eat b/c you sat on bed-like couches and they served you your food on a tray. It was almost like eating breakfast in bed.

Saturday morning we woke up super early and watched the sunrise over Angkor Wat. It was very cool to see. Although we did not have a pretty colorful sunrise, it was still a neat experience.  We again spent the whole afternoon until about 3 in the park travelin around the large loop. All I can say is look at the pictures when I put them up.

That night the group went to eat at a traditional cambodian buffet. The food was very good. In fact I did not have anything in Cambodia that I did not enjoy! After dinner they provided a show of traditional Cambodian dance.  It was very interesting and very similar to Thai traditional dance that I have seen before. After dinner we got everything ready to leave on Sunday morning.

The trip back to Thailand was about the same as our first trip. I slept and read and we didnt have any major problems. It just took a long time. The bus was a little bit nicer than the first bus in cambodia. We all made it through the border and headed back to Bangkok around 4pm sunday. We were all exhausted after our long trip but I think we all enjoyed it. I dont know if I will go back to Cambodia any time soon, if I do, I dont think I will take the bus:)  I will be posting pictures soon, but we took a couple hundred so I need to sort through them in my spare time when I 'm not planning for class. Thank you all for your prayers. They are much appreciated!!! Love lots:=)

I can't believe all the things you are doing. It sounds so exciting. It is interesting that you constantly have reminders around you to pray for the people around you. I'm sure there are those reminders here, too, but we are just so used to seeing them that they don't even phase us anymore. It is sad.
