Entry for September 28, 2007

Tonight was the Light The Night walk in Portland. It hailed downtown for about five minutes, an hour before the walk started, but the weather held clear for the rest of the night. We walked with our lighted balloons on the main street by the river, taking the northbound lanes of the street. After we turned and walked along the waterfront we crossed one of the bridges, hearing trains (the Max, public transit) crossing above us. After a long walk down the other side of the waterfront we crossed back over the Willamette River on the Hawthorne Bridge. My good friends Timm and Carrie joined me, and somewhere, lost in the massive crowd was the rest of our team: Comunidad de Amigos.
It's a beautiful event and the money we all raise goes to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This is my 2nd year, but my first year with my own team. Next year will be even more successful.
I love the community activism in Portland. Everyone seems to be involved in at least one activity to benefit their community. Many (like myself) have many community support events that they participate in each year.
And, yes, everyone recycles everything that they can, here in the Great Northwest.
