During my senior year of college, I was interviewing with various companies (I think I signed up with every one at our Career Fair). When I walked into the First Investors interview, I was surprised to find that I recognized the interviewer. Todd, a First Investors Registered Representative, had graduated the year before — we had even lived in the same housing complex! He explained that a career at First Investors is empowering, and that if you work hard you will be rewarded. Although I knew it would be a challenge, I decided to take a chance.

Even though working as a Registered Representative has been challenging, I truly believe financial services is my calling. Because of the speed at which society and the financial industry are moving forward, people need my help more than ever. They need someone to guide them through the complexities of 401(k) rollovers, and Roth and Traditional IRAs. We especially have a wonderful opportunity to help the “baby boom” generation with their retirement planning. It’s a very exciting time!

One of the great things about working at
First Investors is that I have the opportunity to help others achieve their goals, while simultaneously achieving my own. It’s a wonderful feeling to “raise the bar” for myself and then meet my own expectations. At first, qualifying for our annual sales convention seemed unattainable. Yet, I have learned to focus on keeping EVERY DAY as busy as possible, because all those busy days add up to one successful year. I believe something good is always right around the corner.

There have been invaluable influences in my life at First Investors. My husband, Andrew, also a Registered Representative, has been wonderful for my career. He’s been a pillar of support and motivation. My original supervisor, Rob Flood (now a Manager in Tampa), encouraged me to make the most difficult phone calls first. He also taught me not to be intimidated by prospective clients, and taught me the importance of persistence and follow-up calls and visits. My current Manager, Rick Risley, has always reminded me of what to stay focused on. Rick is honest and good-natured and sets a high standard for everyone in the office.

I believe that, in the years to come, my career will be increasingly rewarding. The endless opportunities coupled with wonderful colleagues makes First Investors a fantastic place to be.
