Furnace update
Ugh! Didn't want to worry anyone, but our furnace decided to quit, once and for all, just about the time I made my post saying we were comfy yesterday. I think I jinxed it with my message.
So, we had the furnace replaced on an emergency basis; it took from 11 a.m. until about 5:30 p.m. today. Last night, we purchased a space heater and made one bedroom into a cocoon. At least we had power to run the heater, as well as a couple of heating pads stuck in the bed. We added a smoke detector above the space heater, just in case.
I also set an alarm to ring every 2 hours all night, and did a walk around the house, running water everywhere, flushing toilets, and then leaving faucets to run slowly. I was successful in preventing a frozen pipe. The temp on the 1st floor when I got up was off the chart...our thermometer reads down to 45 and the needle was ALL the way over! During the day, I moved the heater and pads downstairs, closed the door to upstairs, ran the oven intermittently, and got the temp downstairs up to 60, but upstairs was frigid.
Thank goodness this was taken care of today. Temps tonight are expected to go down to -4!
Did I tell you I like our service? They installed a programmable thermostat (I bought it a while ago, but hadn't gotten around to installing) just for the asking.
