| June 6th-7th-8th: Chris and I prefished Friday afternoonfor the Lorain WWA tourneys on Friday. We started in shallow water east of the river with nothing but smallies and then moved to deeper water (40-50) where we picked up 8 fish in fairly short order but the biggest was only 7 pounds. there was an incredible amount of fish and bait in the area and we dicided to start there on Saturday. Fish came best on Barbie Reefrunners and Confusion Silver Leaf spoons (small). Saturday morning we only caught 2 throwbacks by 8AM and were looking to move west of the river when Christian gave us a call and requested that we pick his partner and fish up for the weighin, as he had spun a prop. We decided to just move over to his area and fish but we could never get anything going. I caught numerous Sheephead and White Bass and perch. Chris did manage to get a few in the boat but I never got a keeper walleye all day. I had several come off but I never really had a big one on. We lost this tourney by over 40 pounds with only 8 pounds weighed in (3 fish). Chris was reluctant to even weigh our little 1 pounder and in hind site we probably should have released all but 1 of them so they could grow up a little. Sunday morning we shut down right outside of the harbor and started fishing in 25FOW. We had a small 16-18" fish in the boat immediately but I shook him off. By 7:30 we had a couple more and then we tied into the big fish of the day. It took forever to get it in the boat as the rear treble was buried in the corner of his mouth but somehow the front hook got in his gill plate so we had to bring her in sideways. We worked that spot all morning and never got another decent fish in the boat. They were coming off when we took off the board or on the way in. The hot lure was a Black prism bomber but Chris never could get anything going all day. Frustration over losing all those big fish finally took over and we left the area with no more real luck all day. The highlight of the day was sitting in safe harbor while we had a driving thundershower. It was awesome to see but no fun to be in. These pictures don't do the storm justice. 23 trips June 14: We took the weekend off and took some furniture to my son at UC. We stopped at Bass Pro to get a region map for my X15 but had no luck with idiots behind the counter. There was an awesome rainstorm while we were there. We were going to go out Sunday but got up laate and with winds building I decided to vegetate and do a little work around the house because it is starting to look abandoned. So far this year I'm about 10 trips behind last year. Some of it is because of weather but some is also because of the PWT and saving time to fish them. Next tourney is in Dunkirk and we'll be leaving on the 3rd of July for the PWT and Amaracan tourneys. June 22: Chris and I fun fished the Vermilion area. The day started off with Sheephead and Smallmouth in close just east of the Vermilion river. After a couple hours of that we turned the radio on and heard Lazyeye who gave us some numbers in deeper water out by the Sandbar. We moved out and only sporadically were getting small fish until we happened on the color purple. Things got better after that and we caught several nice fish with a couple breakoffs on some old leaders I was using. big fish was 8.8 and an intersting side note was that one of the breakoffs was caught by someone else out there with my Frankenberry spoon still in it's mouth (8 pounds). Chris had a slow day as most of the fish were coming off my side of the boat. Picture 24 trips I scanned in a couple pictures from the Huron tournament that the FHRRA guys had taken and gave me a couple during the lorain tourney, It's hard to believe we lost that tourney by so much with fish like this but there's been a good big fish bite going for almost 2 months now. The pics are here. |
