What We Were
We were bright eyed little children
With hope in our hearts
And laughter on our lips.
We played together happily
Blissfully ignorant of everything else
Not knowing that it would have to end.
Crying over petty things
Then tears forgotten in a second
Fickle friendships that last and last.
Do you remember how every second counted?
And how we lived each precious one
Forever living in the moment.
Our lives were so much simpler then
Untroubled by worries of the future
We thought next week was far away.
The future didn't really matter
We were only children
How could we understand?
