The
Old Couple
Two solid figures
Walking side by side
Wearing bright red raincoats
Hoods up against the weather
Dirty boots trudge on and on
Splashing through puddles
Like the children waiting at home
But their steps are heavier
The cares of middle age
Press heavy on their shoulders
Why are they walking
In the pouring rain?
What worries drive them
From their safe home
Out into the cold?
Is walking together their only way
To hold onto something
That seems to be long gone?
Have they walked for so long
That the rain disolved their love away?
