Solitary Eyes

Your eyes met mine across the room

You sympathise, but you don't speak up

You're afraid of what will happen if you do

Afraid they'll cast you out

I am surrounded by them, trapped

They form a circle around me

Faces set and cold as ice

You're face stands out, unsure

But you go along with it anyway

I pity you, even as they move closer

My pain will be over soon

They'll finish the job for good this time

I know, and I am prepared for it

But you will live on for years

And your pain will go on

The pain of standing by

Know that I forgive you

For your eyes speak out to me

They tell me you're on my side

Begging me to understand

That this wasn't what you want

I understand, I promise

Don't worry about me anymore

I want them to kill me now

So please don't blame yourself
