The
low grumble of thunder,
The sudden flash of lightning
The hard, fast rain drops
That quickly turn gutters into streams
The heat of the long summer days
Broken by a sudden storm
The trees seem so much greener now
With water glistening on their leaves
The wind shakes the branches
Showering water on the sheltering cowards
A passing car splashes water up to its roof
Like a metal elephant bathing in an urban lake
I dance as the rain lashes down on me
Turning my face up to the skies
Splashing in inches of water
Where seconds ago the ground was bone dry
The prefect grass beneath my feet
Soon becomes water logged and muddy
I hold my hands to the suddenly dark clouds
Daring them to drench me further
My wet cheeks are pale and cold
I'm soaked to the skin through my thin summer clothes
But still I go on dancing and laughing
As the rain keeps on falling
Whoever said sunshine brings happiness
Never danced in the rain
