Lost Souls

 

See the deadness in a child’s eyes

See the hopelessness in their faces

See the way they forget to trust

See the way they are reduced to nothing

 

Children do not play here

They are old beyond their years

To young to understand

To old to be oblivious

 

They’ve seen more than they should ever see

They’ve lost more than anyone should

These children are not children

They are the lost souls.
