Ilusion
A fish in water isn’t where you
expect
A spinning bird and cage become one
Stairs that go up forever and ever
Yet somehow end up at the bottom
again
A smile painted onto your lips
That I return, only mine is sincere
A hand that you held out to me
That I took, believing it to be
real
The rope you threw out to save me
That I clutched at but couldn’t
reach
Your horror as you watched me drown
That convinced everyone but me
You somehow stole my smile
My fingers slipped through your
hand
The rope that you taunted me with
The act while eyes were on you
None of them were real
I think the only real thing you
ever gave me
Was hatred for all those who try to
help me
For the memory of you stays strong
Although, I sometimes think
That the smile when they all turned
away
Your smile as I lay dying
I think that smile was real
