10/27/00 Arrived home to Martinez. More pictures coming!
10/25/00 Madrid, Spain We saw Beauty and the Beast! Or Belle y la Bestia! Good thing we knew the story. Leave Madrid at 7:50 AM (8:50 pm 10/25) to start my trip home. From Madrid we go to Munich and then on to SF.
10/24/00 Cordoba, Spain Spent a nice non-rainy day in this lovely city. not much English here... really testing my jr. high Spanish! not to mention the Spanish here sounds like they all are talking with a lisp.... Barthalona and then we went to Valenthia not Valencia... and servesas (beers) are said thervethath.... makes you sound like you've already had too many. Spain has been friendly though... like it more than I thought I would. Countryside has lots of olive trees and grape vines. See you all soon... off to Madrid tomorrow
10/19/00 (update from Gene for Kathy) Barcelona, Spain Barcelona is fantastic... I would love to stay longer, you could spend a week just enjoying the city and the late night dining. So much art here and the architecture is amazing!
10/16/00 Santorini, Greece The beautiful island of Santorini (part of the Cyclades Island chain). The weather is great and enjoying the countryside. Quite different than Corfu, as you can tell by the pictures. More desert and cliff towns hanging off the rocks. The weather turned out perfect for pictures... we rented a car... second time in Greece, never thought I'd drive here, but it's not so hard... people are quite relaxed. the pictures on the postcards are true to life... really amazing Cliffside towns... lots and lots and lots and LOTS of steps.... but it beats riding the donkey's... they were pretty stinky.
10/13/00 Corfu, Greece We really are enjoying Corfu. As you can see by the pictures, there are a lot of still rural parts of Corfu, farmers and old roads. Everyone is friendly here too. Driving is an experience, and as I soon learned, relax, and slow down at the intersections, and don’t worry about whose right of way it is, everything is first come first serve.. Nobody rushes you. The donkeys stay to the right, then the bikes, then the tourist cars, (me), then the locals. It’s a great system. The food is fabulous! We were lucky to have friends here to show us around a little, how to eat etc. But we explored on our own and had a great time too. Went snorkeling!
10/12/00 (update from Gene for Kathy) Lecce, Italy going to Greece Still waiting for the Greek ferry. We just had the greatest lunch in Lecce... also had this wonderful seafood up in Brindisi. All of the pictures posted are from Germany … none from, Swiss Alps or Italy yet (need to find a place to copy pictures to a CD). I have about 200 pictures already ... looking forward to being able to send in Corfu. We are meeting with a friend of Werners... perhaps they will know where to get CD created in Greece
10/10/00 (update from Gene for Kathy) What a great city. Despite the rain and the language problems we've managed to stay sort of dry and get where we are going ok. Italy is pretty crazy… Venice is fantastic the glass and art... really wonderful. I'm thrilled... it's amazing. The masks! The glass! wow. Off to Southern Italy on 10/11/00
10/7/00 (update from Gene for Kathy) As you can see from the our home page, Kathy is now in Padova Italy. She is staying in little town near Padova. It’s raining there but having pizza and Italian wine was a nice way to spend an afternoon.. It has been much harder getting around there than she thought. Very few people really speak English or are willing to anyway. some have been very friendly, some not so friendly.
10/5/00 (update from Gene for Kathy). Spoke to Kathy last night from Switzerland and she was planning to take the train to Italy today. Not sure where but maybe she’ll find an Internet Café and update the WEB site. Based on her description of the Swiss Alps I’m going to plan a trip to do some skiing. Sound like there will be a lot of black diamond runs (I can handle :-))
9/29/00 From Manheim Germany Yes I’m in Manheim!!! Flight was OK. So far met with friends and having a great time although tired. Long flight, almost 2 hours late of course standard for United. Will go into Heidelberg tomorrow, and have some fun with friend Roland and his family. The weather is nice... not raining or anything. Until next log.... bye. |
