Part 2—on Land (continued) |

|
There are a lot of ‘unemployed” Elephants now that the logging industry is changing… so they have turned them to the tourist trade… which seems like a pretty good deal for the elephants… they work a part day, then get taken down to the river to take a bath and drink… and then set free ’till the next day. We were relieved to see them being treated well by the ‘drivers’ and keepers. Mostly our elephant just grazed on the local vegetation… (Bamboo seemed to be his favorite food.) |
|
Our elephant being let free to graze before bath time. After the elephant ride, we got on some bamboo rafts.. And rafted down a very shallow river… and coincidentally saw our elephants just being brought down the trail to the river to bathe... |

A bridge like in an Indiana Jones movie… on our way to see the Hmong hilltribe |

Doi Inthanon National Park is home to the highest pt. in Thailand. It also is home to an incredible number of colorful birds… so colorful you can’t believe your eyes. Also wild begonias and Rhododendrons are everywhere. We hiked up into meadows and along Jungley streams… and along cliffs. Below, also in the park, are 2 buildings, one as a tribute to the King and the other to the Queen. The Queen’s is quite ornate with mosaics depicting the life of Buddha. |
